Makes Plans
Asked about his plans for the fall
and winter, Ray T. Maloney, presi-
dent of the Bally Manufacturing
Company, repl.ed, "Th,e public
wants something different-abso-
lutely different-in the way of pin
games, and it's our job to give the
public what it wants."
Then he took us out to the fac-
tory where, besides the regular out-
put of Ballyhoo, Ballyround, Screwy,
a nd Three-Ring Circus, production

is now in full swing on the newest
Bally game.
It's Goofy-that's its name and
that's exactly what it is-goofy!
The. playing field ·o f Goofy is dif-
ferent than t hat of any game yet
placed on the market. In stead of
a jungle of metal pins, nineteen re-
silient wooden pegs are used . These
pegs impart to the ball a peculiar
action that greatly adds to the sus-
pense. Another novel feature of
Goofy is a series of five scoring
pockets in a row, each guarded by
a free-swinging one-way gate. To
score anyone of these pockets it is

necessary to get the ball by one or
more gates without tilting the next
gate. This one-way idea ought to
prove a strong play-compeller.
The bally hole, made famo us by
Ballyhoo is used in Goofy-but used
in a new way. It is absolutely un-
guarded and thus is a powerful in-
centive to continuous play.
Probably the most fascinating and
thrilling scoring-hole on the entire
Goofy field is the 1000-hole. The
approach to this hole is a slightly in-
clined wire track.
A well-t imed
stroke brings the ball to the point
where this track rises out of the sur-
face of the field; the ball then rolls
neatly up this track and drops into
the 1000-hole.
The Goofy field provides lR scor-
ing holes, including the bally hole,
two free-play holes and one out-hole.
The field is a rich velvety black with
a modernistic design in red, yellow,
orange, green, blue, silver and gold.
Goofy is being launched with the
co-operation of the most complete
line-up of jobbers and distributor!:.
ever known to pin-game history.
Jim Buckley, Bally sales manager, is
now busy putting the fi nishing
touches on the efficient and far-
flung marketing organization that
he perfected during his recent visits
to jobbers and distributors in va-

The men who put over Ballyhoo with
their

merchandising
feats--Ray Maloney, Jim Buckley
and Pat Millete, Bally production
manager-are again joining forces
to push Goofy to even greater suc-
cess than that of Ballyhoo. They
are assisted by Herb B. Jones, new
Bally advertising manager, and Dan
Hubbard, nationally known expert
in coin-machine merchandising, who
has been called in as a special con-

With a team of this caliber con-

Denver News Letter
By L. S. FLINT
Denv·e r, Colo.-The alleged killing
by George Myers, Denver druggist,
of a younthful bandit who attempted
to steal a mint vending machine
from the Myers store at East Twen-
ty-second avenue
and Downing
street, is believed to have been indi-
rectly responsible for a series of coin
machine raids conducted late in Au-
gust by the Denver police.
Widespread publicity given the at-
tempted holdup and subsequent
killing drew a great deal of atten-
tion to the mint vending machines in
general which is thought to have in-
cited protests against their contin-
ued operation in numerous districts.

J. W. Hunter, owner of the Won-
derland Penny Arcade in Denver,
has completed construction of a new
type of miniature bowling alley
known as Bowlo. At present he is
running it without a slot, but plans
to make it a penny coin machine in
the near future. It measures eight
feet by twelve feet. Hunter has
sold four of the new units and is
considering putting- them on the
market.
Hunter proposes a chip consisting
of a narrow ring with a large hole
in the center as a solution to the
