DUE FOR UPDATE
IN THE YEAR 2000
JAPAN -ThejapanAmusement
Machine Manufacturers Associa-
tion QAMMA) believe the cur-
rent standard JAMMA connec-
tor for video game boards has
basically been superseded and
are aiming to release a new stan-
dard edge connector for video
games in the year 2000.
The JAMMA connector as a
standard, first introduced in 1985
and updated a touch in 1996 has
been a great success for the in-
dustry and has made life a lot
easier for operators all over the
world.
The new JAMMA Video Stan-
dard is expected to differ greatly
from the current 5 6 pins in a line
configuration as present plans
lean towards four types of con-
nector - DC Power, Video Line,
Audio and Switch .
In the DC Power connector 3.3
volt will be added to the conven-
tional voltages probably necessi-
tating an eight pin connector.
The Video connector will be able
to use two 15 pin connectors in
tandem to accommodate the use
of a second monitor, and the
Audio line connection will be
based on stereo sound, using up
to two RCA pins.
As the new JAMMA standard is
being designed to also be used
with gaming machines, the switch
line connector will not only
handle the control panel, coin
switches and coin counters, etc.,
but also have connections for
payout and other gaming re-
quirements. The new system also
accommodates the linking of
games.
