PROBLEM
Ball save magnet cannot propel
ball back into play. Ball drains
instead. Customers stop playing
the game.
CAUSE
The powerful magnet-ball action
has eroded the finish and worn a
tiny "divot" into the playfield.
After the magnet de-energizes,
the ball will hang for a moment
in this worn spot and not roll far
away from the magnet center.
When the magnet momentarily
re-energizes, the ball does not get
enough momentum going to pro-
pel it back in play.
SOLUTION

March 1997
It's easy. Chip away the worn
area to about 1 square inch. This
will broaden the ball trap. Re-
paint the area with black paint
and cover with a thick mylar
strip, about 1.5" x 3". This will
provide a smooth surface and
prevent further wear. Cut the
mylar so balls exiting the
outlanes do not hang on the
edges.
Note: This problem will eventu-
ally occur in all Goldeneyes.
PROBLEM
On ICE's Home Run Derby there
is an issue with the gate that needs
addressing. The gate is often left
unlatched letting the possibility
exist for someone to enter the
cage while there is someone else
playing -creating a safety hazard.
SOLUTION
The current latch on the gate
should be replaced by a self latch-
ing spring type latch. The spring
to close the door is also inad-
equate and should be replaced
with one that will guarantee that
the gate will fully close. You
should find these items at your
local fence company or a well-
stocked hardware store .
Pl.A.CEMENr
The latch should be installed high
enough that a small child cannot
open it. This should greatly re-
duce the chance of injury and
make the game much safer.

SYMPTOM
SoLurION
If you see that diodes (D25
through D32) in the General Il-
lumination circuit are getting hot
and discoloring the PCB, per-
form the following modification.
Remove the diodes and replace
with zero ohm jumpers. If you
don't have a zero-ohm jumper
use 18-guage wire jumpers. All
games now being produced will
reflect this change.
