MIDWAY MACE SOFTWARE FIXES
FoR DIFFICULTY AND
SECRET CHARACTERS
Service Dept.
Midway Mfg.
Chicago, Illinois
SUBJECT
PROBLEM
Mace software cheat capability
This EPRO M also fixes another
problem. Currently, on all Mace
dedicated 25" units, there is a bug
which prevents the timed release
of secret characters.
PROBLEM
Midway has discovered a signifi-
cant software problem with the
current Mace version.
SOLUTION
SYMPTOM
Currently there is a cheat that
allows players to play the com-
puter on the easiest difficulty
level, regardless of the operator-
selected difficulty. Needless to
day, this should be corrected as
soon as possible to preserve long-
term earnings.
Sou.rrmN
To fix this problem, Midway has
made available a master
EPROM (call your distributor for
more information, availability on
this chip). This will disable the
cheat and keep the difficulty
pegged at the operator selected
level.
Once the new EPROM is in-
stalled, this will be corrected and
the first character will be re-
leased. The remaining three se-
cret characters will appear every
two weeks thereafter.
CAUTION
However, it is vital that operators
do not clear their statistics prior
to installation. If the statistics are
cleared, then the first character
will not release for one full
month.
After installation, it is safe to clear
the statistics -but not before. This
goes for both Mace 25" and uni-
versal kits.

NOTE
There are two versions of this
program. One version is 32K and
the other is SK that works in the
converted WWF boards. Con-
verted WWF boards have
EPROMS with labels that are
written in pen or felt marker
rather than a printer.
CAUTION
When installing EPROM's, ori-
entate the IC with the notch in
the same direction as the old IC.
Labels on update EPROM's may
be installed backwards with re-
spect to the original EPROM's,
so do not use the labels as an in-
dication ofEPROM orientation.
