We are using the New Style Cherry 128 X 32 Dot Matrix
Display (beige colored display P.C.B.) in our New Sega
Showcase Backbox used on Space Jam and The Star
Wars Trilogy-Special Edition. We have found that the
brackets we are using to mount the display work great
with the New Style Display, but can create a potential
short condition if an Old Style (green colored display
P.C.B.) board is "Swapped-In" as a replacement.
In an effort to aid the operator by ensuring compatibility
with all 128 x 32 Displays, even those used by other
pinball manufacturers, we have immediately added a
spacer between the mounting brackets and the display
board. We are also making available a Spacer Kit, for
those of you that may not have spacers already in stock

There are generally just two kinds of diodes used
in electronic pinball machines. NOTE: The two
types are generally NOT interchangeable!. They
sometimes may look the same, but you cannot go
by "color". You must read the tiny numbers!
Clear Precise Directions For:

There are two common kinds of diode packages:
Clear Glass -which allows the orange-colored de-
vice inside to be visible through the glass, and Black
Epoxy.

Sanyo
Eygo
1N4148 are often glass (orange). 1N4004 are often
black, but not always!. It is probably a good idea
to keep a dozen or so of each type around for quick
repairs.

Diodes sort of look like resistors, but have only a
single band at one end and some numbers that
identify the device type. The band on the device
body relates directly to the band on the schematic
diagram, and is a "block" to current flow. The
plumbing/hydraulic analogy is that a diode is like
a c;:heck valve that allows water to flow in one di-
rection only. Diodes similarly allow current to flow
in only one direction.

IDENTIFYING DIODES IN
• 1N4148
Switching diode. High speed, low current. Used in
the switch matrix. 100 PIV (Peak Inverse Volts),
10 milleAmp.
•1N4004
Rectifier diode. Medium power. Used on solenoid
coils to dampen magnetic pulses created when
current stops flowing in the coil. 400 PIV, 1 Amp.
