SKIPPING Disc CHECKLIST

SYMPTOM
Rowe CDs skipping
CAUSE
-
Skipping CD player in juke. Iso-
late the problem. Skipping means
the player can't maintain track-
ing. It's either responding to ex-
ternal forces or it is incapable on
its own of proper tracking.
SUSPENSION
Good suspension should prevent
skipping from bumps, though
high volume low frequency
sound vibration could cause
trouble.
PLAYER
Does your symptom only occur
at high sound levels?
If it skips even when no one
bumps it and while it is playing
at lower levels, then it is the
player itself.
BINDING
Make sure nothing can interfere
with the works mechanically, like
~ a wire that can rub the CD or a
cable that gets pushed up under
the sled (optical pickup).
You cleaned your CDs, but
do you clean your lenses?
In home stereo CD players, that
is 900/o of the service need. You
can blow off dust, but the tar and
nicotine from smoke will film the
optics.
PROCEDURE
Use lens cleaning solution or iso-
propyl alcohol. Get real pure iso-
propyl, not rubbing alcohol, ask
the druggist. Rubbing alcohol
can contain oils for skin lube.
Use a Q-tip or a foam swab wet
with cleaner and gently gently
clean the lens, then clean it again.
Accumulating dirt on the lens
would be consistent with a skip-
ping problem that slowly gets
worse over time.
The optics lens is supported on
tiny coils which move it around
to maintain focus and tracking.
It is very tender. Hold the Q-tip
lightly and apply minimal pres-
sure to the lens, gently wiping
sideways.

HELP!
Does anybody have any idea
how to get the Rowe CDM-12 to
work without skipping? Ever
since the CDM-12's came out
I've had skipping problems, but
lately it's gotten out of hand.
MACHINES AFFECTED
SUBJECT
CD- lO0F phonographs prior to
serial number 540.
Rowe has introduced two kits for
the CD- lO0E jukebox.
PROBLEM
PROBLEM
My latest box to go bad, a 100-E,
is on it's third laser player and
second Mech control board. My
location just called and told me
is skipping again!
This Juke is FIVE weeks old!
This box was put in location to
replace another Rowe 100-E, that
was skipping. The firstJuke did
last about 9 months before skip-
ping. WOW. I'm beginning to
think the 45's were better.
Is anybody else having to wait 10
or more days to get a replace-
ment player? My Distributor
doesn't have any, and Rowe parts
says they won't have any for ten
days or more.
(I have the latest revision V 1.1
Player and V 5.3 EPROM on the
control board, The CD's are all
clean and the player free floats
on it's springs.)
Title rack light blocks may inter-
fere with the title rack mounting
brackets causing a jam and break-
ing pages or gears.
SOLUTION
Replace the light blocks with new
replacement parts now available.
Contact your Rowe distributor.
1
Glass retainer brackets on the top
door have sharp edges which can
cause injuries during routine
maintenance.
SOLUTION 1
Install protective molding on
glass retainer brackets.

2
Top doors can have a tendency
to sag, causing difficulty closing
the door.
SOLUTION
2
Install CD- lO0E door brace kit.
AVAILABILITY
Contact your Rowe distributor
for more information on these
upgrade kits.
CHECK
Make sure that the money meter
and play meter wires are not rub-
bing under the player. To be
100% on this, just unplug the
meter wires from the mech con-
trol. This has been one source of
problems with this unit.
