SWITCHES
SYMPTOMS
Game locks-up or resets when
doing Maya's ultimate. Tempo-
rary freeze performed by Maya
to any opponent. Bonus credit
buy-in errors.
SourrmN
Revision 11.3 corrects these prob-
lems.
NOTE
This fix applies only to coin set-
tings which allow for a dis-
counted credit purchase for mul-
tiple coins inserted. Also imple-
ments 5 additional standard coin
settings for the UK.
v' Obviously, you should check
the wiring first. Make damn sure
the right wires are connected
(cross connected columns
androws can cause all kinds of
havoc).
v' Non-functional switch: Check -
the diode. Replace it with a
1N4004.
v' Check the column driver
(ULN-2803) on the CPU board.
v' Is it a microswitch, check it -
they do go bad too.

pays for itself over and over again.
One tech tip many times is worth
a years subscription -or more.
It's as important as any tool in
your shop.
v' Check the manual for location
and replace it. It'll be on the
power driver board or (in the
case of the wide body games) on
an auxiliary board.
When your coin-op game goes
down, turn to STAR*TECH
journal to save yourself valuable
time and money.

SKIPPING Disc CHECKLIST

SYMPTOM
Rowe CDs skipping
CAUSE
-
Skipping CD player in juke. Iso-
late the problem. Skipping means
the player can't maintain track-
ing. It's either responding to ex-
ternal forces or it is incapable on
its own of proper tracking.
SUSPENSION
Good suspension should prevent
skipping from bumps, though
high volume low frequency
sound vibration could cause
trouble.
PLAYER
Does your symptom only occur
at high sound levels?
If it skips even when no one
bumps it and while it is playing
at lower levels, then it is the
player itself.
BINDING
Make sure nothing can interfere
with the works mechanically, like
~ a wire that can rub the CD or a
cable that gets pushed up under
the sled (optical pickup).
You cleaned your CDs, but
do you clean your lenses?
In home stereo CD players, that
is 900/o of the service need. You
can blow off dust, but the tar and
nicotine from smoke will film the
optics.
PROCEDURE
Use lens cleaning solution or iso-
propyl alcohol. Get real pure iso-
propyl, not rubbing alcohol, ask
the druggist. Rubbing alcohol
can contain oils for skin lube.
Use a Q-tip or a foam swab wet
with cleaner and gently gently
clean the lens, then clean it again.
Accumulating dirt on the lens
would be consistent with a skip-
ping problem that slowly gets
worse over time.
The optics lens is supported on
tiny coils which move it around
to maintain focus and tracking.
It is very tender. Hold the Q-tip
lightly and apply minimal pres-
sure to the lens, gently wiping
sideways.

PMs
Cleaning is something you need
to do on a regular basis.
