position. Starting with pot 1, ei-
ther left hand (orange) light, or
the right hand (green) light will
come on. If the left hand light is
on, tum pot 1 clockwise slowly
until the light goes off. Wait a few
seconds and both lights will come
on, indicating that you have
proper adjustment of the pot.
Conversely, if the right hand light
comes on, tum the adjustment
pot counter-clockwise until the
light goes off. After you have
made your adjustments and both
lights have come on, wait until
they again go off, indicating that
you may proceed to the next ad-
justment pot. Proceed to the pot
2 and follow the same proce-
dures. Your unit will automati-
cally advance through all 5 posi-
tions. After the last adjustment is
made, a few seconds will pass and
the card will be rejected. Your
unit is now properly calibrated
and will accept all of the currency
your unit has been programmed
for. Now tum off the power and
replace the side cover. End of
procedure.

Turn power on and
see if any errors appear in the dis-
play, (If errors occur see your
manual). If not, our first proce-
dure will be to calibrate the bill
verifier. Shut the power off and
before turning the power back on
again, adjust pot 2 (using a small
flat head screw driver) com-
pletely counter-clockwise then 1/
4 turn clockwise (see figure 2 for
pot location). Power up the C-500

tion period, your conversion
should be complete and operat-
ing properly as it was before, only
now you have Loonie and Toonie
capabilities. Good Luck!
With power on, insert
calibration card with the arrow
up. The card will be accepted by
the unit and stop in the proper

REVITALIZE YOUR VIDEO!
With STAR*TECH Journal's
step is to remove this carbonized material. Scrape
the stuff away with your X-acto knife, pointed
probe, small screwdriver tip. Even if it makes a
hole all the way through, all that carbon has to go.
Any thing you CAN scrape away MUST be
scraped away. Don't be afraid. Good PC board
material is sturdy and stands up to scraping with a
hobby knife. Anything that moves has to leave.

Once you clean up the board, you have to restore
the circuitry. One usual casualty of a fire is the
tracework, it just bums away. Sometimes traces are
left in mid-air. Tempting, but don't use them. Trim

Repair as much of the tracework as you can di-
rectly, in the same way as repairing a cracked
board. Some traces are best replaced by jumper
wires. Just make sure you are taking care of the
just-passin' -through stuff. That is, the trace that dis-
appeared may have gone to a transistor leg, but it
may have continued on to somewhere else, or the
component that burnt might have erased a trace
that wasn't related but had the misfortune of pass-
ing underneath. You could leave a whole section
of the board without ground if you aren't careful.
