After repeatedly calling U.S.
Games for a factory power sup-
ply -a mini version of the 'Chou',
then to have it finally shipped at
a cost of (approx) $70 plus S&H,
the time had come for a better,
less costly way.

After removing the bad factory
power supply from the game and
performing the normal CPU
maintenance (resetting the chips
and a contact cleaner bath), I re-
alized that if there were a way to
protect a real 'Chou' supply from
the monitor adjustment board
that it could in fact be used.

The size of the 'Chou' supply
compared to the size allowed in
the countertop game left some
room, but not enough to be com-
fortable without some sort of pro-
tection between the supply and
the Monitor Adjust PCB.
PROCEDURE
I left the real 'Chou' supply in its
original box and cut panels out
of the box to allow for ventila-
tion on the two larger sides and
one of the other sides.
Note: Allow a one inch border on
the larger two sides and only one-
half inch on the other as to not
make the box weak.
Then remove one end flap (for
access to the wire connections)
and tape the other one shut. Then
remove the wires from the fac-
tory connectors, replacing them
with solderless connectors. Slide
the power supply into the precut
box making sure that the one-cut
side panel (the small side) is fac-
ing toward the money box.
Place the whole thing on top of
the metal plate that protects the
CPU board. Reconnect wires,
noting that its normal colors are:
Red +5. White + 12. Black is
ground on one connector. Black
& White is 120v. Green is ground
on the other.
I first did this in 1990 and to date,
have not had to purchase another
$ 70 power supply. And I also
have not yet had to replace a real
'Chou'. So time has proven this
modification.
Good luck & good savings.
