TIP
STAR*TECHJournal
All of our games are fitted with a
bill acceptor for two very impor-
tant reasons:
pays for itself over and over again.
One tech tip many times is worth
a years subscription -or more.
It's as important as any tool in
your shop.
1. The public is aware of the bill
acceptor. .. they may not have
change, they have a dollar.
When your coin-op game goes
down, turn to STAR*TECH
Journal to save yourself valuable
time and money.
2. The collector's time on loca-
tion is substantially reduced.

SUBJECT
We have run into a situation re-
garding the HSV-300 bill accep-
tor.
STAR* TECH Journal neither op-
erates, distributes nor manufac-
tures coin-operated equipment.
It's sole purpose for being is to
compile technical and informa-
tional data considered valuable
for dissemination to its paid sub-
scribers. Comments or sugges-
tions pertaining to this service are
always welcome.
SYMPI'OM
The service call would be that the
acceptor was not taking bills. Our
service tech would arrive, plug in
the game, and all would be fine.
(It appears the location prefers
the use of bills over coins.)

bill acceptor dropped the voltage
to 9 VDC. This in tum "shut-
down" the bill acceptor's ability
to operate correctly.
Symptoms ranged from poor bill
transport to non-bill acceptance.
Our problems stemmed from the
use of the switching power sup-
ply .
It appears that after adjusting the
12 VDC to max (approx. 14
VDC) and installing the HSV-
300, the 2.5 amp output was un-
able to endure the demand of the
acceptor over an extended pe-
riod of time.
After several on location service
calls, we were able to duplicate
the situation in our shop.
SOLUTION
THis Is WHAT WE LEARNED
We now use a separate switching
power supply for the bill accep-
tors in our games.
We have now installed a switch-
ing power supply with a 12 VDC
output of 3 amps. The 12 VDC
has been "turned up hi".
CAUSE
We will continue to monitor the
situation in order to determine if
a 3 amp output will sustain the
demand of the HSV-300.
The switching power supply was
adjusted to 12 VD C, before load
conditions. When in circuit, the
