SYMPTOM
Note: No game should use MK3
2.0 software. Reset problems
were inadvertently introduced in
this version. All games should
have version 2.1 installed.
When the left hand player chal-
lenges the computer, in the
middle of the game control is lost
and freezes in that position.

v2.1 KAHAL REsET BuG FIXED
When playing Kahal, if a player
holds down punch for 2 seconds,
then goes towards, towards,
down, towards with the joystick
& releases hi punch, game resets.
v2.1 FREE GAME BuG FIXED
When a player finishes a one
player game, Kano and Kabo
jump on the screen during the
end if there are game credits. If
at the point that they land the
player hangs on the 2 start but-
tons, he will be allowed to start
at the bottom of the ladder again.
v2.1 CREDIT MEssAGE
Maximum Credits Message is
printed in a different position on
the screen. Now it is located at
the top of the screen and does not
interfere with the other text.
v2.1 COMPUTER SMARTER
Computer is no longer a sucker
_ for combo moves when being
attacked from behind. Computer
used to get caught by players who
would hide from behind.
Upgrade your program to ver-
sion 1.5 prior to this repair (see
figure 1 for PROM location).
Note: Check to make sure that
the PROMS that you are replac-
ing are the same speed as what
was taken out (27C040-10). In-
stalling a PROM with a speed
lower than 100 nano seconds, will
cause freezing. resetting and
strange problems to occur.

AnDmONAL PROCEDURE
After the PROMs are replaced,
a little work has to be performed
to the control panel. Attach two
lengths of wire from the power
supply logic ground to the com-
mon ground of the joysticks of
each player. This is done because
the ground coming from the har-
ness which is plugged directly
into the computer board, some-
times loses connection thus,
player control is lost.
The PROM upgrade corrected
program problems that were
over looked in version 1.4.

Operator Alert works by monitor-
ing any switch-activated coil that
has the potential to trap a ball
when disabled (e.g. in the Auto
Launch, Scoop, Eject, etc.). If this
assembly has a closed switch in-
dicating a ball is stuck or the
switch is stuck closed, the CPU
board will activate the coil ten
times. It the switch remains
closed, the game will display a
message indicating there is a
problem (e.g. "OPERATOR
ALERT AUTO LAUNCH NOT
WORKING"). This not only
warns the operator of a problem
immediately, but indicates ex-
actly where the operator should
look to resolve it.
2) The display flashes "OPEN
THE COIN DOOR" - This in-
dicates that CMOS RAM
memory ( CPU Location D5) has
been corrupted.
This is caused by either failure
in memory (e.g. batteries are
dead or faulty RAM) or upon
installation of updated version of
code. Opening the Coin Door
will initiate a Factory Restore, by
opening the Memory Protect
Switch. Check battery voltage at
CMOS RAM with power off.
The overall CMOS RAM ad-
dress range is 0000 - lFFF (Hex).
The protected memory in the
CMOS RAM occupies addresses
lE00- lFFF (Hex). If the address
bus is in this range, and MP
(Memory Protect) is in a logic low
state ( due either to the coin door
being closed or a possible wiring
problem), write operations to the
CMOS RAM are disabled
through the logic of gates 7C, IF
and 9E on the CPU board.
3) TECH ALERT is a part of
Portals diagnostic menu and
when selected will display the
switch name and number of any
switch that the CPU has not seen
change state in 50 games.
