A brief overview of the new STAR*TECH]ournal
Bbs features recently installed:
SAVE OVER
1) If you're reading messages
online, you can now move back-
wards in the message chain.
(Something you'd expect from
day one, but in this case it's a long-
awaited improvement.)
2) No more of those annoying
"New, Forward, Backward", "first
message is nnn", and so-forth
prompts for those who just want
to log on, read the new messages,
and log off.
EAD automatically reads
new messages and jumps to
ext, uit, or to
continue and pauses after each.
ONTINUOUS also auto-
matically reads new messages, but
with no pause; for people who
want to capture the entire stream
on their hard drive and read
offline without using an offline
reader.
4) The THER file area fea-
tures a color presentation that
scrolls up and down, allows
searches within the current area
or across all areas. (Not yet imple-
mented in the STAR*TECHjour-
nalBbs because it requires that the
caller's terminal emulation be set
a certain way: VTlO0 and ANSI.
Even though 99-44/100% of all
comm programs support this, the
caller must set the right switches.
And since we're not 1000/o sure of
the consequences of not doing so
-it 'should' just revert to a
kludgier, line-oriented presenta-
tion, but this thing is new and you
never know until it's been kicked
around by a few thousand varied
users. But, STAR*TECH journal
will eventually install this en-
hancement when it's safe to do
so.)
Time to log on and see the im-
provements first-hand. Got a coin-
op problem that's been bugging
you? Post it on the board -maybe
someone else has solved it and the
answer will be waiting for your
next logon. See ya on the 'board'.

SKEE-BALL INTROS Two
NEW UPGRADE KtTs FoR ALLEYS
SURFING THE
INTERNET?

SUBJECT
Skee-Ball has recently introduced
two new retrofitable upgrade kits
for their Model 'S' Skee-Ball al-
leys.
percent. The new display saves
time and money while creating a
more attractive display.
Mo
SINGLE BALL SYSTEM
This feature, now standard on all
Skee-Ball alleys, helps operators
eliminate the down time caused
by having less that nine balls in
an alley.
The rocker arm has been replaced
by a solenoid which counts the
balls as they pass down to the
player. The solenoid remains ac-
tive until nine balls have been re-
1 eased. This way, an alley
equipped with this feature could
be played if there was only one
ball in the game. For maximum
performance, the factory recom-
mends placing six balls into each
alley.

LED DISPLAY UPGRADE KIT
A kit is now available which al-
lows older model 'S' games to
upgrade from the incandescent
display to the new LED version.
The latest version for Primal Rage
is 2.3. This version adds some new
finishing moves and tightens up
the overall game play.
IMPEDANCE
The new LED display will not
bum out under normal operating
conditions and should last for
hundreds of thousands of hours.
It also cuts power consumption to
the display unit by seventy five
Primal Rage is available in three
different formats:
1. Showcase: High impedance.
2. Family Cabinet: Low imped-
ance.
3. Kit: High or Low impedance.
The impedance refers to the drive
on the color output circuit. Most
monitors that the kits will go into
will accept high impedance. The
impedance will affect the bright-
ness of the game.
SELF TEST
The motion object test shows
RO Ms 0-0 in red. The RO Ms are
OK if the checksum is 363E0.
