CBA-2's, I'm sure, have been giv-
ing alot of other people problems
-I would guess. It seems that ev-
ery one develops some type of
problem over a period of time.
And the problems are not any-
thing the CBA has to do, in some
part, to the Rowe Link.
OLDVsNEw
If I were to compare the num-
bers of problems with this Bill
Acceptor to the numbers of
boxes that have them, the old
OBA comes out looking very
good. Its discouraging to see this
many problems and really, I have
not gotten that much support
from Rowe. We've sent back 5
under warranty and there is a
very large percentage of jukes
with this type of bill acceptor.
CAUSES
Kerry Messana, Service Technician
Minetto, New York
The CBA is a nice acceptor when
it works. One problem with it is
there were so many variations of
the unit. The later ones used in
CDlO0C's on up is OK until it
gets dirty. It has a habit of col-
lecting alot of dust and dirt
around the optos.
CAUTION
The one optic board that is
mounted off ears from the lower
track is usually the filthiest. Be
extremely careful and gentle when
removing this board, those
mounting ears break off quite
easily. I have had to replace alot
of lower tracks because of cus-
tomers breaking them.
CRACK.ED SHAFr
Another problem is in one of the
top shafts, it is the one that is on
top with the timing belt around
it, they have a habit of cracking.
When this happens, the pulley
slips on the shaft and the belts
won't tum or tum very slowly. If
the pulleys on that shaft are clear
plastic, replace that shaft if it is
in for service. The newer ones are
made of white plastic and hold
up better.
INTEGRATED CIRCUIT
Another problem with the accep-
tor is on the mag head board as-
sembly, I have had a few go bad,
the LM358 surface mount IC
begins to oscillate, especially af-
ter it has been on a few minutes.
Evidence of this can be seen on
an oscilloscope at the connector
on the lower board.
LUBE
Also, don't forget to lubricate the
acceptor according to specs in the

Following an article in the Novem-
ber '95 issue of S'I] by Evan Wessel
which was critical of Dynamo re-
placement hockey playfield costs, Dy-
namo replies:
"In response to your article on
the increasing cost of Dynamo
Hockey playfields, and in sup-
port of the amusement operators,
Dynamo has decreased the cost
of the replacement playfields."

manual, this will also keep it run-
ning at top performance.
COMPARISON
I do have to say that I like the
older OBA acceptor better than
a CBA. It is a "no brainer" to re-
pair usually and 95% of it's prob-
lems could be done up by a route
man. When Rowe started using
the CBA acceptor in the jukes I
asked them why, their answer: "It
is a better acceptor and we pro-
vide it with a 2 year warranty in-
stead of 1 year like an OBA."

What the hell is it with pinball
manufacturers? Why do they feel
the need to have women with
34DDD breasts popping out of
their clothes on all games these
days? Are there really that many
undersexed 16 year old boys that
will only play a game because of
these pictures?
Most pinball players are male
anyway; why not stick Henry
Rollins in Speedos on a game or
two to attract the female players?
Baywatch. Now there's a joke; and
the game isn't all that great either.
Do I really want to see bimbos
in bathing suits to see if I got a
match? Does anybody? (Same
gripe goes for the lame match on
Guns n' Roses.)
Theatre of Magic. Great theme that
doesn't really call for females (ex-
cept perhaps for the levitating
woman illusion), yet there's a
chick with enormous breasts on
the backglass. Why why WHY??
