SUBJECT
In refer~nce to the article in
Munday Morning Blues:
"Nightmare on Namco Street"
(STAR-If-TECH Journal, Sep-
tember '93) let me say that I
feel Larry's pain. Fun Factory
Inc. operates two 4-player sys-
tems of Suzuka 8-Hours on my
island of Maui -so I am very
SOME IDEAS THAT MAY HELP
familiar with the problems
Larry has encountered.
Suzuka 8-Hours is a very good
game. It is great in the cash
box, it looks great, and it's fun.
It is, however, an adventure
for technicians.
• The next time you pull a bike
off the game, cut the ears off
the access plate on the top of
the bike mount frame (see Fig-
ure 2). The ears keep the plate
from coming off unless you re-
move the bike from the game.
Once the ears are cut off, the
plate can be removed in the~

future without detaching the
bike. The two front screws will'
hold the plate quite securely-
so there's no real need to make
new bolt holes at the rear.
• Don't disassemble the bike if
you don't have to. With a little
effort you can reach up inside
the body shell of the bike and
disconnect (and reconnect) the
cable going down into the
frame at a connector about
halfway up the body on the
right side. (see Figure 1).
~
- All of the problems I have had
with the game have involved
this cable. Don't tear the body
shell apart; just get hold of
that cable.
• Eliminate the AMP connec-
tor in the frame (see Figure 1).
This rigidly mounted connec-
tor is the source of all your
woes. I ran new wires from the
Molex connector up in the bike
body to the Molex connector
inside the game cabinet with
no connector in the middle.
The hole where the amp con-
nector was mounted is too
small to pass the Molex plug
through, so you have to string
the wires through the hole
then assemble the plug on the
other side.
• Run the wires through a big
piece of heat shrink tubing to
minimize chafing from the
edges of the connector hole.
With no rigid mount in the
middle, the wiring bundle is
under much less strain when
the bike moves back and forth.
TRY IT -You'LL Lnm IT!
Try these modifications and
you should find Suzuka 8-
Hours to be a fairly easy game
to live with. Gook Luck.
