SUBJECT
SUBJECT
Atari Stun Runner steering
problem.
CPU board under the piggy-
back board. The chip is sock-
eted for easy replacement.
SYMPTOM
Cannot steer side to side in
game mode. Steering checks
OK in test mode.
PROBLEM
The battery-backed RAM at
location 210E has failed. This
RAM holds calibration data
for the steering circuit while
the game is off.
SOLUTION
Replace the failed RAM. It is
located at the far comer of the
SUBSTITUTES
In regards to Bill Johnston's
article about coin switches in
the May 1993 STAR'ff'TECH
Journal issue "Testing Coin
Door Switches".
Acceptable replacements are:
FINDINGS
• ST (SGS-Thomson)
MK48Z02B-15
or
• Dallas DS1220.
NOTE
The game will calibrate itself
on power-up. Make sure you do
not hold the controls during
calibration.
I am certain the blue coin
switches used on Coin Con-
trols doors are the main cul-
prits. Having changed at least
100 of them myself, I've found
that these switches are oflo~
quality and are sometimes baa-,.·
right out of the bag. I've seen
220 ohms across a brand new
switch!
TESTING
Check the new ones before you
install them. I al ways click
them at least five times to
verify their operation.

It's really strange, sometimes
they read perfectly good then
several clicks later you'll get a
bad reading. If anyone makes
a higher quality replacement,
I for one sure would be inter-
ested.

SUBJECT
SOURCE
Rowe amplifiers repeated fail-
ure.
PROCEDURE
If you need a unit fixed or need
info call Tuesday thru Satur-
day at 1-800-967-2855 and I
will answer your questions.
First
Check all speakers to make
sure they are not shorted. Do
this from the jukebox using an
ohmmeter set in the low range.
Check for 4 to 8 ohms on each
speaker.
With some recent new custom-
ers we have noted alot of OBA
bill units, sent to us for repair,
come in with the rollers
gummed with oil.
~cond
, With a good amplifier in the
jukebox, play a song with a lot
of bass at maximum volume
and check the overload lights
to make sure they are off. (I
like to use Garth Brooks Thun-
der Rolls for the bass at the
end of the song.)

PLEAsENOTE
We strongly advise against
using oil. It is better to use a
Teflon lube in any and all bill
units.
