Data East's has a new pinball

AMOA show in Nashville.

By the response given this new
Data East pinball at the AMOA
show, you could be sure Data
East had another big hit on
their hands. The line to play this
Star Wars theme pinball at
Nashville was backed up ten to
fifteen deep to get a chance to
play.
The playf ield consists of R2-D2

drop target door and then send
your ball into the Death Star to
blow it up and save the universe.
The dot matrix display adds
that big screen special affects.~
This pinball is pretty much a
straight shooter on the shoot-
ing angles. The Death Star is a
hard shot because you have to
hit it straight on -with no bump-
ing of the bumpers on either
side.

the AMOA show, but from the
time the floor opened to clos-

push-button ball plunger. The
push-button ball plunger in con-
junction with the dot matrix
display becomes a gun turret as
you move the gun turret up and
down to shoot down your foe,
the Dark Side. This is pretty
challenging.

We just bought one of these
new Sci-Fi pinballs a couple,
three weeks ago and it started
strong but, went down for main-
tenance a week ago. This down-
time is a big money thief of new
videos and new pinballs. A new
pinball should last at least sixr--,
months without breaking some-
thing major and holding down
your revenues.

The problem we had with our
Star Wars Pinballwas with the
plunger that kicks the ball from
the lower level to the upper
playfield. It would seem that it
tried to kick two balls at the
same time, in multi-ball play, and
broke the plunger. I don't know if
this is a wide spread problem or
not, but I can see it happening
again.

overhead ramps. The longevity
may be in question.
I do like the dot matrix display,
though. The combination of
sound, playfield, and dot matrix
display is done to the same
excellence of all Data East
Pinballs.
I think Data East does sound,
playfield, and dot matrix display
combination better than any
other pinball manufacturer.
Along with their excellent digi-
tal flippers, and popular theme's.
I think Data East pinballs are
the top of the line pinball ma-
chines.

The other thing I didn't like was
that there is no post to hold up
the playfield for servicing. When
your working on just the flippers
(which doesn't happen much on
Data East flippers), the short
posts make you kneel to service
the flippers or you may have to
put the playfield up if your only

As far as play goes, it was
getting plenty of play for the
first week. For a Data East
pinball though, it doesn't have as
much going on as other Data
East playfields, not as many

For the first time ever, I had a
customer get free credits on a
Williams pinball, Addam's Family.
Try hitting your coin door to
verify if you have this condition.

switch.
The
weight should
be against the
coin door.
I would like to see the tilt slam
have the effect of a hard slam.
It would be enabled if there are
2 or more tilts within a 60
second period. This would then
take all remaining games off. A
"smart tilt" system.
