BALL AGITATOR
HORIZONTAL OUTPUT FAILURE
Horizontal Output Transistor
(HOT) shorted.
with an EGC2302, I powered
up the monitor, which takes a
few seconds before the high
voltage appears, and a bright
blue screen came on. I traced
this to R228, a high wattage
resistor mounted on stilts on
the neck board. It had broken
loose from the copper traces on
the solder side, turning the
blue gun on -all the way.
REPAmS AND CHECKS
CAUSE
I was advised by Hantarex
customer service techs to
check R229, a 1 megohm resis-
tor for an open condition, Tl 13
(horizontal drive xsistor) and
D134, D135 for a short condi-
tion. None were defective. Af-
ter replacing T114 (BU508A)
'rhis of course loads Tl 14 via
the flyback, which is probably
why it failed. A good idea
might be to reinforce R22 and
R25 on the neckboard. Maybe
something could be done at the
factory level to reinforce this
fragile area.

PROBLEM
Agitator paddle binds against
the ball and balls will not roll
down into the serve lane.
SOLUTION
Loosen the two set screws and
lower the paddle so that the
bottom of the agitator shaft is
~ with the playfield. Thi~
will still stir the balls up, but
without affecting game play.

The Coin Coalition's Jim
Benfield has reported a new
program that promises new
hope for the dollar coin. The
U.S. Postal Service will begin
to use dollar coins next year in
its vending machines. Accord-
ing to Carolyn Murphy, who
heads vending operations for
the Postal Service, January
will see the first of an est~
mated ten to twelve thousan'-
vendors that dispense Susan -
B. Anthony dollars in high-
value transactions.
