PROBLEM
I read with interest an article
by Vic Fortenbach. The date of
the article was November 19,
1992. He described a failure
mode of poor focus on WG 7131
monitors utilized in Leland's
Super Off Road game.
"Hot Hits" sells excellent Com-
pact Disk compilations in
nearly every possible format
that CD juke box operators can
use. However, they sell them
in a cardboard carrier instead
of a standard "Jewel Box".
..,OLUTION
The obvious solution, of
course, is to transfer the CD to
a "Jewel Box". Since we oper-
ate only Rowe CD boxes, we
insert only the Rowe title strip
in the box. With a paper cutter
we also trim the cardboard
carrier so that it will fit inside
the box too. This works out
well, although it is difficult to
see what is in the box in our
"empty Jewel Box" library -
without handling the box.
However, we recently discov-
ered that the Seeburg title
strip is made to fit in the back-
side of the "Jewel Box", with
markings visible on the edges
too.
~'m sure most Seeburg opera-
tors have known this, but we
thought others may want to
use this packaging idea also.
Since his description of the
problem and his cure did not
seem to correlate, we decided
to give him a call to gather
further information. Through
that conversation, we have de-
termined that the problem lies
in capacitor #C57 and not C50
and/or 4 7 as described in the
article.

We have seen this problem
described to us in earlier ar-
ticles from STAR *TECH
Journal. We had written you
earlier indicating that we had
upgraded this part to a 4 7µ
farad capacitor rated at 200V
DC and 105 degrees C.
This part is available from WG
under our part #45x0580-026.
I would suggest anybody re-
pairing monitors for these
symptoms, replace the old C4 7
with this upgraded part.

VIDEO POWER SUPPLIES
WHICH
To
STOCK
&
QmcK REPLACEMENT
Just the other day, I was confronted with an interesting choice. As it turned out, not a
difficult choice for me, but for some of you -a choice that you may want to consider.
TYPES
I'm speaking of the decision to
purchase and stock the new
"computer" style power sup-
plies that come in the new
dedicated videos these days.
Or, if you have been doing
video conversions (and who
hasn't?) or repairs, to stock the
older (but still reliable) "peter
chou" style supplies. This is a
choice for you to make. Based
on a couple of points that I will
explain, you'll probably see
your choice clearly, too.
YoUR DECISION
"To stock or not to stock" the
new style "computer" supplies
and/or the older "peter chou"
supplies is the question.
repair or upgrade older videos,
such as Atari's Pole Position
and Williams' Joust, Defender
and Stargate. That's two big
plusses for the "chou" supply.

In fact, you lose nothing if you
replace the "computer" type
supplies with the "chou" sup-
ply. Now, knowing this I only
have to stock one type -the
"peter chou" type supply. For
me, the choice was easy.
CHOU SUPPLIES
I do alot of video conversion
kits, in which I install the "pe-
ter chou" type supply. So, for
this reason I am going to have
to stock this type supply. I also
use the "chou" type supply to
QUICK INSTALL
Here, now is some general in-
formation concerning install-
ing and/or changing supplies
with a "peter chou" type power
supply.
L Find a good location in
which to mount the sup-
ply.
a) A good location
is one that allows you to
mount the new supply
in such a way as to use
the available wire har-
nessing -without add-
ing wire extensions.
2. Locate the AC output
to the computer old sup-
ply.
a) These (usu-
ally) black and white
wires will also go to the
marquee lights and the
monitor isolation trans-
former.
b) Disconnect the
AC hook-up from the old
supply and prepare the
wire ends for connection
to the new supply. Do
this so that the AC line
