Arachnid 6000 Series Darts
In the game mode there is no
picture, but in test everything
looks good.
Data East pinball power sup-
ply.
PROBLEM
Unstable picture and/or sync
with little to no contrast
screen control.
SYMPTOM
SOLUTION
Put the game in test, go to
bookkeeping and write down
the numbers, now clear book-
keeping.
SOLUTION
At first look you might think
it's a monitor problem but it's
not. I found Ql (2N2222 or
ECG 123A) on the Main Game
Board leaky, sending a video
signal to the monitor that's
weak or unstable.
Go back to game mode, if the
picture is back and everything
looks OK, you can re-enter the
bookkeeping data.
Data East pinball (Time Ma-
chine) that has no display.
SOLUTION
Check for+ and- 100v. If one is
missing check not only the
100v zener diodes but the 39k
resistors at RB and R9, if one
opens up or changes value it
could keep the respective tran-
sistors from turning on.

In my most recent attempt at
an onsite repair, I found that
the 100v zeners (that I do keep
in the truck) were ok and that
the 15 cent resistor that
should be 39k ohms was now
about 4 meg and 62 miles
away. Where is a Radio Shack
when you need one?

In reference to your article "Al-
ternate Source for Atari Hard
Drivin' Steering Pot" in the
February 1993 issue of
STAR*TECH Journal.

ture on screen.

SOLUTION
Mon~tor Updates
Since your article ran, Hosfelt
Electronics has had a run on
those l0K ohm 10-turn pots
and are now out of stock. That
was apparently a one-time
only deal and they are not get-
ting any more.
Found D14 (MR818 or
ECG506) and C 18 to be bad.

SOLUTION
The good news is that Digi-
Key carries the original re-
placement part (Digi-Key
#73JA103N) for $10.98. This
is a regular part in their cata-
log so it will continue to be
available.
