SUBJECT
This is the first year for a coin-op game show in San
Antonio and advance registration is up from last
year. Attending the show gives you a preview of a
lot of equipment that some of the local distributors
might not have on their floors. And the seminars
are always of value.
UsEIT
One thing that needs to be done more at the shows
is letting the manufacturer know if you have a
problem. An example of this is the dedicated games
now being produced.
Some of the games in the past have had press board
floors and fronts. Many of these games will not
make much more money than paying for them-
selves at best. This leaves us with a cabinet to be re-
kitted. If the base gets wet, we can sweep the game
up into the trash! We don't need a repeat of the first
''Disposable Cabinet" (Double Dragon).
Look at how Williams builds their cabinets and
then listen why some others can't do it. Look every-
thing over and tell the manufacturer what you
want. This is how things get better.
GOTTA GRIPE?
Some things may seem too minor to mention, like
breaking flipper links or new power supplies going
out. How about new games not working out of the
crateoryoucan'tgetpartsfora$10,000game(Steel
Talons) for 4 weeks. What about CD boxes ruining
their discs. Speak up! This is your opportunity.
We as operators need the manufacturer-and they
need us. Get to know them at the show and the open
houses that follow at your local distributor. You
will find most of them are very concerned people.
Besides, as the old saying goes "The squeaky wheel
~ets the grease".

Check your Mad Dog games:
Make sure your laser disk player
in your Mad Dog game is venti-
lated. Miµe was completely en-
closed with no air ventilation at
all.
SYMPTOM
The first thing that you see is a
gummy substance on the edge of
the disk or on the disk drawer.
This will get inside the player and
cause it to have problems seek-
ing. If this happens, the game will
reset and you will see the moving
gibberish on the screen that you
see when you first tum on the
game.
trigger to the outlet plug and your
outlet has a true ground on it.
Mine is properly grounded and
the game still burns up the CIA
chips on the Amiga 500 board all
the time. Get a supply of these
from your Commodore repair
center if possible.
NOTE
Commodore has been jerking
around thier service centers so
you may have a hard time getting
any parts from them.
Battery acid.
PROCEDURE
Every pinball/video game that
comes through my shop gets the
battery, usually a 3.6v nicad
(nickel crudmium), dropped off
the board with wires. Wrapping
the batteries with electrical tape
so that the likelihood of acid va-
por escaping is lessened, this
places the battery far away -
where it can do no harm to logic
boards.
BOTTOM LINE
A cheap, easy bit of preventive
maintenance that possibly saves
a big headache later.
SOLUTION
Drill holes and install a fan to the
to vent the hot air outside before
your player goes bad.
