PROBLEM
PROBLEM
You have a Lightning, Flight
2000, Orbitor One or Split Second
and the speech is missing while
all other sounds are operating.
No raster or high voltage.
Anyone out there have problems
with their Slugfest baseball card
mechs? More times than not, the
cards don't come out when the
dispenser tries to vend? Is this a
major problem?
PROBLEM
The problem is in the General
Illumination circuit.
SYMPrOM
Checking the voltage at pin 2 of
IC 202 measures around 8 volts,
and the voltage at the base of
Q202 is at near O volts.
SOLUTION
SOLUTION
SOLUTION
The speech board needs the volt-
age from the general illumina-
tion circuit to work. The failure
lies in one of the following areas:
I've had this problem twice, and it
has been C212 (4.7ufd 35vdc)
that had gone bad each time, re-
place and your up and running
again.
• Blown 20 amp general illumi-
nation fuse on the power supply.
• Power supply pins have a cold
solder joint.
• Wires in the connector are
burnt or broken.
In my case, we didn't bother look-
ing for the reason the general
illumination playfield lights
were not working. We wanted to
get the electronics (speech) run-
ning first. If we had known, we
could have saved ourselves a lot
of time swapping boards and run-
ning back and forth from the
shop.

Try some preventive mainte-
nance and these precautions o ~
your card mech and all your prob-
lems will be minor.
Three main maintenance items
associated with the dispenser
mech:
• You have to clean the 'O' Rings
on occasion.
• Also make sure the cards are
installed with the NON polished
surface towards the 'O' Rings.
• There also was a service bulle-
tin that involved checking the
position of a curved piece of metal
at the top of the card dispenser.
