Solenoid spike protection on board, heavier driv-
ers for the really big loads that have been prob-
lems in the past (like drop target reset).
A self-test/ diagnostic/bookkeeping system that
could only be the product of a programmer with
too much time on his/her hands and even a real
time clock so you can set your watch on location.
A deal at twice the price. Oh, I almost forgot, an
optional printer interface to dump the coin info.
Toe sound board is neat too. It uses a digital pot
that Xicor has been making lately (any one else
out there read Radio Electronics?) so you don't
even need a knob to adjust the volume, just
press a button.
~ e menu system is a sight to behold ... there has
to be at least three times the goodies to step
through as there was before. I doubt most opera-
tors ever get past the balls/play page in the
manual, but there's tons of junk there now for
your reading.
I mean there is a system in there now that would
make your average computer nut faint from
orgasmic anticipation! You can do everything
from adjust the volume to set the date and time.
I like it, but then again I'm a little more than the
average computer nut. Is this the wave of the
future, or just the product of a bunch of guys/
gals with little or no sex life? I guess it's up to you
to decide. "Oh, honey, I need to have a little talk
with you."

with the Wells-Gardner Medium res 7000

was wrong. Toe medium res version I was talking
about was apparently the 5000 family. I'm sony
for any problems this may have caused.

Tips For Installing
Atari Badlands

CONTROL PANEL I
. The Neo•Geo kit comes with a pre assembled
control panel that's supposed to mount into your
existing panel. Good Luck! Cutting out the panel
as directed will weaken the panel and probably
won't fit anyway. Don't even attempt that with a
metal pa11el, by the way. Instead, strip all parts
from their panel and mount it into yours, using
their empty panel as an overlay.
MARQUEE
The LED display windows in the marquee are too
low in many cases and you will have to cut a new
window out with a hole saw. When cutting the
marquee, do not cut the bottom off. Then it
definitely will not line up. All in all, more difficult
to install than a conventional kit.

II
We ordered the kits WITIIOUT the control panel
and used our buttons and joysticks, plus we
blocked up the display holes on the marquee and
mounted the displays next to each start button.
Just like the dedicated game.

To use only one meter for both left player and
right player coin chutes, tie the JAMMA coin
counter outputs together (pins J & 8) and con-
nect to meter, other meter wire is connected to
+Sor+ 12 be sure to use a diode across the meter
wires (1N400x will do the job)

PROBLEM
We use the angle drawer System Cabinets for
over one-third of our videos. So when we change
games we just slide out a drawer. Badlands
however has a foot pedal, so we would have to
change foot pedals with the drawer. We found a
way to eliminate the foot pedal.
SOLUTION
You will have to position the steering wheels
more to the left and install two buttons, beside
one another, to the right of the steering wheels,
you cannot use the Atari control panel layout.
Just make your own.
PROCEDURE
When the Atari foot pedal is in the up position, it
is normally open. When it is in the down posi-
tion, it reads 1.2k ohms.
Simply install a 1.2k ohms resistor in line be-
tween one of the wires to the pedal and the
switch contact. One wire to common and one
wire to normally open. With the resistor in
between one of the wires and the switch. All the
player has to do now is push the button to speed
up and maintain speed, or let off to slow down or
stop entirely.

MONO SPEAKER SOUND
Use theJAMMAspeaker outputs (instead of the
on-board connector) and switch the Mono-ste-
reo switch to Mono (switch is located upper right)

CREDIT DISPLAYS
CONCLUSION
You must use the LED credit displays provided
with the kit, since there is no credit display on
screen.
The foot pedal has variable resistance, but most
players either use it wide open or not at all. We
have found no decrease in play with this setup.
