More than likely it needs to be adjusted (refer to
Figure 1). If the belt is clicking, it's probably too
loose. Loosen the two screws shown in Figure 1
and adjust belt to a finger tension of 3/32" play.
If this doesn't work, the big white gear or Reduc-
tion Gear may be broken.

MAGNETIC HEAD PROBLEMS
This is usually indicated by the BT rejecting a
fairly good shaped 1985 series bill (refer to Rowe
Service Bulletins G-102 and G-107). OBA-2Con-
trol Units don't tell you if the Magnetic head is
the cause of your bill acceptance problems, but
the new OBA Control Units (610389-03), the
ones with Rowelink Communication, flashes the
fault light 5 or 6 times after rejecting a bill, to
indicate problems associated with the Magnetic
Head.

If your Upper and Lower Belts are fine and the
BT's motor speed has been adjusted, then try
adjusting the Mag Adjustment Pot (use appro-
priate manual directions). If that doesn't work
then you may have a bad Magnetic Head.
Disassemble the BTlike you would to replace the
Upper Belts until you reach the Output Shaft
removal part, stop there. Remove the two screws
that hold the Magnetic Head harness restraint
on and unplug Mag Head Assembly from circuit
board. Replace with new Magnetic Head Assem-
bly, then replace Upper Belts and retest.
OPTIC PROBLEMS
Optical problems don't happen too often (I don't
think I've seen more than a couple). To test Vl
Optic just insert a bill, if the motor starts, it
works. To test V2 Optic on the OBA-2 Control
Units just lift the top and the fault light will come
on, if it does -it works.
On the Rowelink OBA Control Units. the fault
light will flash twice after a rejected bill, to
indicate problems with V2. The V 4 optic can be
tested by simply pushing the Anti-Cheat Lever
down, if the fault light comes on, it works.
On the OBA Control Units with Rowelink, push-
ing down the Anti-Cheat Lever will start the
motor running. If every other bill or every couple
bills fail, check the Anti-Cheat Lever for burrs,
file down any found. Check to see that the spring
is working and not hanging up. If that doesn't fix
it then file the plastic seam down on the lever
itself so it won't stick.

Attention:
The last thing to remember is that the system
will either give you no credits or the wrong
number of credits. Wrong credits usually result
from the OBA Control Unit on back, where as no
credits usually result from either the OBA Con-
trol Unit or the BT. Also make sure the BT's
motor is reversing and rejecting the bill, or the
BT will run forward and drop the bill in the
stacker without giving credits.
