Betson Big Choice Door Problem.s
SUBJECT
THE SECOND PROBLEM IS lW0-FOLD.
As I am a stickler for the KISSI (Keep it Simple,
Stupid!) principle, I recently applied it to a
Betson Btg Choice.
1) Keeping the doors from
"dropping" down if the bot-
tom rail is depressed, and
2) adding an additional
padlock for cash box secu-
rity.
Toe two biggest problems with it were the coin
door lights and the lower door security. As I have
seen other articles dealing with these problems,
I decided to give it a KISSI
Two KISS!'s required.
flRST, lHE COIN DOOR UGHlS.
These are a difficult item to find and somewhat
expensive when you can find them as they are a
24 volt Wed~e base. I assume they are fairly
common in Europe where the Crane is made, but
having spent several years there and NOT seeing
them, I can't verify this.
I did apply a bit of basic series/parallel circuit
analysis to this problem and came up with the
following solution. Wire the lamp sockets in
series and tap the power off the coils (see FYgure
1).
Now you can use standard 12 volt lamps (GE
# 194) and the normal operation of the coin door
still applies. Toe lights still go out when the coin
lack out solenoids are energized.

NUMBER ONE.
A six to eight inch piece of one inch angle iron
screwed to the inside of each door, centered at
the bottom (see FYgure 2) will keep the door from
dropping and, therefore, from unauthorized en-
try.

Two.
Adding a padlock to each coin box helps to
preserve the internal security if the outer door is
pried off. At the most, locks keep honest people
honest and at the least it makes a thief work for
what he gets. It is not hard, and here's how.
• Cut a slot (see FYgure 3) in the coin box and slip
a padlock over the rail, through the slot and lock
it. See, I told you it was easy!
• A template for the slot is provided in FYgure 4.
One more thing: Make sure you cut the slot on
the side of the coin box with the most accessibil-
ity to make padlock use as easy as possible.
