SOLUTION
Most new off-road motor bikes that use a cable
system on their front brakes have a normally
closed switch on the handle assembly to operate
the rear brake light. Nip down to your local motor
bike spare parts dealer and buy the switch,
handle base, handle and brake cable.
Remove the original brake handle assembly and
replace with switch handle assembly. Remove
cover over steering assembly and feed switch
wires inside.
Locate and remove brake pot assembly taking
note of pot wiring. One of the switch wires is
connected to the +5 volt pot wire and the other to
the brake input wire. Place a lk ohm pulldown
resistor between the brake input and GND pot
wire to stop the input from floating when the
switch is open.
Cut about 10" of cable sleeve and 14" of cable
and flt to handle assembly. One free end of cable
place one small washer with an internal diam-
eter larger than the cable but smaller than
another small washer and then screw an electri-
cal terminal block onto the end of the internal
cable.
Now when you squeeze the brake handle the
spring should compress and return the brake
handle on release thereby closing and opening
the switch.

PROBLEM
PROCEDURE
Car slowing down or stopping while playing
game.
• Solder wires to the legs of the 1/R Emitter and
the Phototransistor. Note that the base of the
Phototransistor will need to be cut off as it will
not be used.
CAUSE
The reason for this is usually because the
microswitch on the foot pedal assembly is out of
adjustment or bad. After making several trips of
200 miles each to adjust or replace the
microswitch, there had to be a better way than
using a microswitch.
• Use 1/16" shrink tubing to cover solder con-
nections and to insulate the legs from their
respective cases when they are bent over.

SOLUTION
I decided to try an 1/R Emitter and Detector to do
the job of the microswitch. After mounting the
components on a piece of perfboard, I added the
power wires and output wires and mounted the
board to the side of the cabinet beside the foot
pedal assembly.
