New Black Pinball Rubbers
A Field Test

SUBJECT
ALTERNATE SOURCE
When man first invented the auto he needed a
rubber tire. Natural rubber is a light tan with
lampblack added. The next logical question is why
are flipper rubbers red? They should be black!
I have been testing another set of black flipper
rubbers by Happ Controls on a Terminator II pin-
ball. With the high earnings of this game, I wore the
ends off the rubbers in the first two weeks. My new
black rubbers in about 6 weeks play and show no
wear.
NEW COMPOSITION
Data East is using them on their new game. An-
other first for them, and they are working with no
problem. (See follwing article for more info on Data
East's new /7,ipper rubber: ed).
CONCLUSION
I feel it is worth having these new fli pperrubbers on
all Terminator II pinballs. I will be upgrading my
entire route with the black flipper rubbers as I shop
the pinballs.
Data East/Wico Introduce
New Pinball Flipper Rubber
Data East and Wico Corp have recently developed
a new propietary flipper rubber. The new flipper
rubber, made from high quality virgin rubber with
a polysilicate additive, is very distinguishable from
other flipper rubbers since it is black. Black is
considered a more stable color since most dyes
combined with UV light cause rubber to break
down at an accelerated rate.
Recent test results showed that after 247 hours of
play, 16,288 balls played and 3,856 games played,
the flipper rubber had no cu ts or signs of wear. Also
the playfield around the flippers remained cleaner
as there was no rubber particle dust and dirt
created by deteriorating rubber.
In addition to the new flipper rubber, Data East
and Wico are also offering a shooter tip made from
the same durable rubber.
For more information on the new flipper rubber or
shooter tip, please call Data East Parts and Service
at 1-800-542-5377.
