Following a successful enuy into the LCD hand
held game market in 1989, Konami, Inc. an-
nounced it would unveil a new series of games at
the 1991 Toy Fair. The leading independent
supplier of video games for the Nintendo Enter-
tainment System (NES), Konami Consumer
Products Division has traditionally shown
games only at the Conswner Electronics Shows.
"We've experienced double digit growth since
introducing hand helds and believe we're poised
to take a leadership role in the LCD market." said
Emil Heidkamp, senior vice president of
Konami's Consumer Division. "For us to effec-
tively compete and translate our leadership with
Nintendo products to this market, we need to
~present our hand helds at Toy Fair where the
majority of products are shown."
When converting a Nintendo video game to the
hand held format, Konami is careful to design
each with different action and graphics from
original. "In focus groups, we learned kids feel
cheated if they think the hand held game is the
same as the NES game," explained Heidkamp.
"Changing the game even slightly extends the life
of the title and gives the gamer added value to his
or her gaming library."
Konami Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Konami Indusuy Co., Ltd/Japan. Konami's
worldwide activities include the development
and marketing of arcade and home entertain-
ment software and peripherals. Products in-
clude Nintendo Entertainment System car-
tridges, LCD hand held games and the
LaserScope. Konami annual sales for fiscal 1990
exceeded $260 million and sales for fiscal 1991
are expected to exceed $300 million.
aaTESTER for BALLY & STERN FLIPPER GAMESiai
All pinball machines made by Bally or Stern between 1977 and 1984 have one
thing in common: they all contain the same Main Processor Board (MPU).
These boards have a header strip which was included in the design of the
circuit board to allow connection to an external diagnostic computer. Our
TESTER plugs into this header and disables the MPU board's ROMs and
enables it's own, so you can tell immediately whether the problem is in your
hardware or software. The TESTER'S onboard ROM runs a detailed diagnostic
program which allows addressing of each and every solenoid, controlled light,
and display digit to allow testing of the Solenoid driver board, the Light driver
board, and the Displays. You also get a Switch Matrix board to test the switch
rows and columns and to input commands to the TESTER program. Comes
with extra long cables to test boards without having to remove them from the
game and an instruction book to guide any intrepid technician, armed only with
a logic probe and a multi-meter, through all phases of use of the TESTER.
~ TESTER board with diagnostic program ROM, switch matrix board,
extra long hook-up cables, and complete instruction book ..... $300.
