PROBLEM
Annoying flicker in Bally /Midway's Tri-
Sports video which can promote eyestrain.
SYMPTOM
The left side of the monitor is dark while the
right side displays normal video.
SOLUTION
New updated Roms available from your Wil-
liams/Bally /Midway distributor cures this
condition. Call for availability.
CAUSE
The problem described is caused by a poorly
filtered B+ boost coming from the flyback.
OBSERVATIONS
Tri-Sports does have appeal but I question
the menu type of choices and wonder if it
would be more player-friendly with separate
game select buttons [3]. Somehow, I felt it
leaned a bit toward the Playchoice game type
selecting method, which is fine for the kids,
but unfriendly for the tavern adults ... or so
it seems from here.
SOLUTION
On an Electrohome G07 chassis monitor the
filter cap is located on the neck board. Check
or replace cap Cl07, 10 mfd at 250v. When
it fails it causes excessive brightness, i.e.
with the screen control turned all the way
down, the picture still has retrace lines in it.
We do badly need a good tavern piece these
days, so I hope this fits the need & price.
On the Wells Gardner K4900 series moni-
tors chassis, the cap that will cause side to
side fading is C702 ( 1 0uf, 1 0Ov) located near
the flyback on the main board. Replace this
cap with 1 0uf at 160 volts

SUBJECT
Attention everyone! Fluorocarbon based sol-
vents are being phased out of the electronic
industry with a target date of 1993.
About those containers you needed for small
parts, go to a Target or a K-Mart and check in
the sporting goods department. I have found
that the boxes sold for fishing use to be
mighty handy.
Most of them are made of the same plastic as
the VCR tape boxes, but they have a real
hinge instead of the flexed edge used for VCR
tape boxes. They are also made of thicker
material.
Additionally, they are divided into different
interior compartments to allow you to keep
the nuts from mixing with the screws (and
lord knows what can happen then!).
Another box I found has two lids on opposite
sides with 15 compartments. The compart-
ments each will hold 5 fuses. Two other com-
partments will hold even more. This one
small box holds every fuse that I need for
99% of my repairs, and it's easy to see which
fuses you need when you get back to the
shop.

All service managers are encouraged to
explore other avenues to reduce the use of
fluorocarbons. (Fluorocarbons are proven to
be responsible for the destruction of our
fragile Ozone layer).
Cramco is currently distributing "No-Clean"
solder. It's the same price as regular solder.
Chemtool is working on a freeze mist based
on liquid nitrogen and a solvent with a
Methyl Chloride base.
Rolin/MMs has more information on the
solder and are currently shipping some
FREE samples. Their number is 213-927-
2245.
