SUBJECT
PROBLEM
Wheel Of Fortune kits with the serial numbers
211001 through 211308 have their trackwheel
connectors wired backwards.
System 11 Pinball Games display the ADJUST-
MENT FAILURE message after Power-up.
INFORMATION
During normal game Power-Up, the Coin Door is
closed, causing the Memory Protect switch to be
actuated. If a problem causes the game program
to try to reset to Factory Settings, the ADJUST-
MENT FAILURE message appears, when the
game program fails to complete the reset opera-
tion.
This indicates a problem with the Memory Pro-
tect circuitry (which may include the batteries,
diodes, U25, U36, or switch and wiring).
SOLUTION
Pin 1 should be White/Orange, pin2-Red, pin3-
Black, pin4-Orange/White. A diagram of the
correct configuration has been mailed to all
distributors who received these kits. Please
contact your distributor for a copy of this dia-
gram.
GRAPHICS DAMAGE
Also the Wheel Of Fortune cabinet graphics may
be damaged by some glass cleaners or ammonia
based products such as Windex and Formula
409.
1. Check that the CPU Board batteries are
firmly in place in the battery holder and
that they have good electrical contact with
the holder's terminals.
2. With the game turned off, check for a
minimum battery voltage of 3.8V de at pin
24 of U25. Replace batteries if voltage is
low.
3. Check for proper diode action of CPU
Board diodes Dl and D2.
4. Check CPU Board CMOS RAM U25 and
associated circuitry.
5. Check the Coin Door wiring, including
the action of the Memory Protect Switch.
6. Check CPU Board U36 (Memory Protect
circuit) for proper operation.
A SOLUTION
A recommended alternative when applying the
decals is a solution of 1 part Joy dish soap and
15 parts water.

PROBLEM
Erratic operation of the joystick on Sega After-
Burner video.
CAUSE
This problem is well known to be caused by the
5K pots. but there is also another possible
cause. Toe wiring harness for the control is
located quite close to moving parts of the joys-
tick. I have found problems of erratic operation
after new 5K pots were installed and traced the
source to be the wiring harness.
This special order form assures you of big savings on valuable
information you need to keep up the service end of your Coin-
Op Industry business. Each volume contains 12 issues plus a
year-e1,1d index for easy tracking of the articles in each issue.
Moving parts (gears, etc .. ) had caused the insu-
lation on the wires to be stripped away, this
caused shorts or high resistance in the line.
Simply check the back volume(s) you need and enclose proper
payment (U.S. funds, please). Fill out the information we'll need
to process your order and we11 mail immediately. U.S. and
Canadian orders are mailed U.S. Priority Mail. Other countries
are shipped their orders via Air Mail.
CURE
Rewire the joystick next time you replace the
pots. I used molex connectors at the pots to
speed field service. The pots are pre-wired at the
shop and plugged in at the location.
MANUFACTURERS REPLY
The harness is always a good place to check
when you have erratic controL Always use volt-
age readings across the harness. Measure the
voltage at the pot and at the board, if duferent it
is usually the harness or connectors. Never use
ohm readings. Darl Davidson, Customer Service
Mgr., Sega USA, San Jose, CA.

An article appeared in our last issue which, frankly,
should have gone into our April (fools) issue! The
page 6 article: Atari Cyberba/1 Tip should be removed
or otherwise made unreadable (except for laughs).
Gremlins at work, we suspect! Apologies to Atari and
