CAUTION
PROBLEM
Nowadays, change kits use marquees that
are just printed on sheets of plastic film
instead of glass. These film marquees are
then placed behind clear glass or plexiglass,
then backlit with lights. There's nothing
really wrong with this setup, but there is one
thing to beware of: the marquees can melt
when exposed to direct sunlight.
Where can I get the special bits needed for
servicing Sega games?
PROBLEM
Case in point: last year I overhauled a Bally/
Sente Chicken Shift video in the shop and
then I pushed it out to the warehouse door-
way so it could be delivered. This was a mild
October afternoon. But the sun had a clear
shot at the game. About an hour later I did
a double take when I glanced at the machine.
The marquee had disappeared!
Looking closer, I saw that the plastic film
had warped from the heat, leaving the clear
glass protector to display a bare fluorescent
light. I removed the bracket and took out the
marquee. Fortunately it didn't melt, it just
warped. It looked like it could be used again
if we could just flatten it out again.
SOLUTION
That night I got a clothes iron out of the
closet and set it to low temperature. I placed
the marquee between two pillowcases (old T-
shirts should work, too; just don't let the
iron touch the plastic) and ironed slowly for
about twenty minutes. A few light bursts of
steam helped too, when used sparingly.
Sure enough, the plastic flattened out beau-
tifully!

SOLUTION
Any Sega Distributor can get these bits from
us. The larger distributors might actually
stock them.

Beckman Industrial Multimeters
Model 223 Features
• Audible Readout
• Logic Pulse Detector
• Auto-Ranging
• Range Lock
• Auto-off Battery Saver
• DC Voltage Accuracy: 0.25%
• Self-Resetting Fuse
• Tilt Stand & Skyhook
• Warranty: 2 years
Stop Third Hand Problem
Tilt stand, auto-ranging and audible
readout make the 223 especially easy to
use. And if you're in a tight spot a conven-
ient Skyhook lets you hang your meter
from a pipe, flange, utility door anywhere.
Check for Dead Capacitors
Shorted or open capacitors can be easily
detected with the audible readout. Now a
capacitor voltage build-up or bleed-off is
heard loud and clear.
Detect lntermittents
The audible readout on the 223 allows you
to hear a distinctive crackling sound if an
intermittent occurs when you jiggle a bro-
ken wire.
Model HD153 Features

color. As for imitating their performance, no

Hands-Free Operation
for Maximum Ease of Use
The HD153 multimeter is packed with fea-
tures that make it the easiest to use meter
around. It is designed to let you keep your
attention on your workg, not your meter.
Audible Readout
The HD153's exclusive feature of audible
readout lets you hear what you're measur-
ing. The HD153 emits a variable tone that
rises or falls as the parameter you measure
rises or falls. This lets you keep your eyes on
the job and frees your hands to connect or
move test leads. Audible readout can meas-
ure volts, ohms or amps. And it alerts you to
intermittents for fast detection & correction.
Super Fast, Full Auto-Ranging
The HD153 auto-ranging may well be the
fastest and most accurate in the business,
because of a special Beckman Industrial
designed dual-meter gate.AID converter. A
voltage-to-frequency circuit makes auto-
matic range selection virtually instantane-
ous. This circuit also generates the signal
used for audible readout.
Range Lock
The HD153 allows you to select and lock in
a range at the push of a button.
End Blown Fuses
The self-resetting fuse can easily handle
excess voltage or surges. So, your multime-
ter is protected from accidents.
Auto-Off
Other DMMs claim to have auto-off but in
reality they just go into a "sleep" mode that
continues to drain your battery. The HD153
multimeter, on the other hand, turns com-
pletely off after setting idle for one hour. No
more finding your meter dead because
someone forgot to turn it off.
Keep Your Eyes On Your Work
For example, on logic boards you can hear
the meter make two different audible tones
for high and low logic levels. You can quickly
probe the board listening for tone changes
that will pinpoint the problem without glanc-
ing at the LCD display.
Logic Detector
The HD153 signals the presence of TTL and
CMOS logic pulses with a fast-responding
audible beep using standard test leads. No
more switching back and forth between logic
probes and your DMM.
Adjust Voltage Levels
When you're adjusting audio or video filters,
the 223's audible tone lets you listen to the
output for maximum voltage without having
to constantly look over at the LCD display.
Find Logic Stuck-Ats
Using standard leads, our fast Logic Pulse
Detector allows you to easily detect if a pulse
has occurred.
Built Tough to Work Hard!
The HD153 is the latest in a distinguished
line of products which began when Beck-
man Industrial pioneered heavy-duty
DMMs with their distinctive yellow color.
Many competitors have since imitated that
