The May issue of Electronic Engineering
Times announced that NEC has just re-
leased their own home videogame system.
It's called TurboGrafx here in the US ("PC
Engine" in Japan) and compares to Nin-
tendo as follows:
Although another home system is not what
we need right now, I hope NEC is successful.
The article stated that NEC's new system is
specifically targeted at Nintendo.
designed for it. I've also heard rumored that
an Arcade version is being tested right now
in the San Diego area ( so it looks as though
NEC will even give Nintendo a run for their
money even on the PlayChoice System).
Jeff Peters, owner/ editor of Electronic Game-
Player, a home/ arcade players magazine,
told me he has had this system for review at
his house for several months now, and Nin-
tendo really pales by comparison. It also has
an option that allows five players to play
simultaneously, if the particular game is
The new SEGA system (called Genesis) was
shown at the CES show in Chicago last~
month. Nintendo not only didn't show their .
16 bit system, (which is rumored to be
available in Japan), but made no mention
about it.

NOTE
When taking voltage measurements be sure
to use the "Zero-Volt Reference Test Point"
the chassis is not connected directly to the
board ground. It goes through a lK resistor!
PROBLEM
If you put a kit into a cabinet that uses one
of WG's 4600 series monitors and you have
problems getting a good lock onto negative
composite sync, perform the following
simple modification
CAUTION
Although the chassis is at earth potential
(unless you cut the ground strap) you will get
out of spec voltage readings. If you have a
jumper between the power supply and earth
ground, the chassis will be connected
through the loop to DC ground.
SOLUTION
Cut the jumper on the Horiz/Vert board that
shorts out C35 l. The jumper is located near
the horizontal hold pot.
