Konami BLADES OF STEEL
Program Change
By Jerry Korbecki. Technical Service Mgr

PROBLEM: Extra Bonus Time
SOLUTION: Program Change
If BLADES OF STEEL is played by one person
(vs corriputer), it is p:>ssible that a
player can shoot from a certain :r;x:>int on
the screen playfield, and have an
abnormally high percentage of goals
scored.
In this case the player can easily beat
the computer opp:>nent and gain extra bonus
time.
'Ihe Eprom in location 19C should be
replaced with a new version 797P 01 to
rectify the problem.

PROBLEM:
Old nickel cadmium batteries of the 3.6vdc
type used in older Bally/Midway and Game
Plan pinballs have had a bad tendency to
leak fluid out onto the MPU board and
wreak extensive damage to traces by eating
the copper from the board and partially
shorting traces to the :r;x:>int that high
frequency microprocessor signals get
intermixed and crash the MPU!
SOLUTION:
The only way to fix a board with this type
of damage is to replace the battery and
remove all traces of battery fluid
wherever it may have reached.
This may involve removing chips, sockets,
and electronic parts to scrape clean the
traces with a fiberglass brush.
NOI'E: When all of the fluid is thought to
be removed and the board is functioning,
use clear fingernail polish to cover the
bare traces.

are parts that I am very confident and
familiar with.
PRICE
IOTIO-FUN will sell for under $3000, and I
think the garoe is capable of earning
$400-$500 per week in areas where people
are playing the real State lottery games.

NEW BEI'SOO GAME
The hottest redemption game on the market
for 1988 looks to be Betson's new lottery
game Im'IO-FUN. It plays just like a real
lottery game with the numbered balls
displayed very realistically on the
monitor screen.
It comes in token hopper or ticket
dispensor models and gives the player a
choice of three familiar games:
If you need more information on LOTIO-FUN,
you can call me at 201/287-4990. I can
assure you that I will be buying many of
these games, especially for our large
surrnner arcades which have complete
redemption centers already set up.

The nurrber of game choices and number of
tokens awarded for exact picks across,
down or diagonal are completely operator
adjustable from 0-9999 tokens.
GAME PLAY
Game play starts with the player choosing
one of the three "Pick" games or pressing
the Repeat Last Game button to make exact
repeat play quicker. (Many people like to
play the same numbers over and over
because they have a lucky number.)
A bingo-type card then appears on the
screen and the player, through the use of
a joystick, manipulates the pencil on the
monitor to mark the numbers of his/her
choice. The joystick is very easy to
maneuver and the time of choosing the
numbers usually ranges from 8-10 seconds.
An operator adjustable time limit can be
set around the 20-25 second range, after
which if the player hasn't cornpleted the
picks, the computer will randomly complete
the task.
GAME COOPONENI'S
I like the quality of the game comi;:onent
choices made by Betson on this game.

PROBLEM: Game Play Too Hard
SOLlJI'ION: Change DIP switch Setting
The original factory recormrended DIP
switch settings for R-TYPE have been
changed.
switch #4 on DIP switch (DSW2) has been
changed from the ON the the OFF i;:osition.
This change will set the game's difficulty
to the "NORMAL" setting.
For all future shipnents this change has
been made at the factory. To enhance the
earning capability of this piece, it is
highly advised to check the settings on
all R-TYPE machines and make this change
accordingly.
PLEASE NOI'E:
When setting the DIP Switches, refer to
the component designation on the PC Board A
for the location of DIP Switch 1 (DSWl)

and DIP switch 2 (DSW2).
*** The designations in the Operation
Manual are labeled backwards.
