station is controlled by one of the 4
identical boards and the free extra board
is there 'just in case' one board should
malfunction.
"Nudge" control and percentage adjustment
features are also included in the circuit
design. The flashing red 'winner' light,
on top of the unit, is an attractive
feature which can only 'add' to the player
appeal.
"TRF.ASURE ISLAND": The price of this
4-player rotary is just under $5500, and
it's price will somewhat depend on the
value of the dollar verses European
currency. It is about the same size as
"Spin-out". I particularly like the silk
screened mirror playfield, which not only
attracts players, but makes the entire
playfield look 'busy'. A 'pot' adjustment
controls the turntable speed, which
permits the operator to coordinate a fair
'win rate' with the type of merchandise
,that is being used.
A timer is corrbined with the 'nudge'
adjustments which lets the operator set
the time of play from 10 to 15 seconds and
nudge control up to 80% of the turntable
arc. If a player exceeds the time setting,
the arm will continue its sweep and play
ends.
The playfield and two shelf levels can be
loaded from any of the top 4 sections, so
as not to interrupt up to 3 players, who
could play while the unit is being loaded.
"Treasure Island" can be separated into
two sections to get it through a standard
doorway. F.ach player section is operated
independently, so if one station
malfunctions, the 3 other stations can be
played.
Other features include:
1) a tilt sound (with optional prize door
lock-out bars) to notify attendant of
player abuse;
2) appealing sound;
3) perimeter attract lights;
4) 25 or 50 cent play adjustment;
5) an attractive sign on the top.

Conductive Solder Paste
By Adolf Seitz, Jr., Technical Services
Premier Technology
Bensenville, Illinois
PROBLEM: Though the paste being used is of
a highly resistive material, excessive
anounts can cause arching and also form a
conductive loop. Recommended solution is
as follows:
SOLt1rION:
=Clean all excessive solder paste from all
effected areas.
=It is recommended you use a freon
solution to clean these areas.
*** Areas to be noted are:
=Between solder terminals of all switches.
=The nulti-transistor rounting bracket
found on underside of playfield. It is
important to clean the paste off the
transistor legs as well as the nounting
bracket. Make sure that all paste in the
through holes for legs has also been
reiooved.
As on all pinball machines, proper
maintenance is of the utnost importance,
not only to minimize down time, but also
in maintaining a high level of revenue
from a properly operating gane.
Part of this maintenance programs includes
=Changing rubber rings
=Changing burned out light bulbs
=Cleaning playfield
*** Frequently checking switch adjustment
on all swtiches on a gane.

problems, or any other problems, please

Electrohome Monitor
Keystone Image Fix
By D. John Repici
Riverside, New Jersey
SYMPIOM: On early Electrohome ronitors,
the raster is not perfectly square. This
is NOi' the slight pull associated with
conversion kit sync problems.
Instead, it is a lack of squareness on the
whole picture. This problem can probably
best be described as a very slight
"keystone" of the image.
On ganes where the nonitors are mounted
vertically, the scores across the top of
the screen will appear to "sag" down (from
left to right) and anything across the
bottom of the screen will appear to bow
upward.
PROBLEM FOUND: C518 (a 220mfd, 16V
electrolytic) dried out and opened up.
This cap is in the side pincushion
transformer circuit and is in parallel
with C517 (a l0Omfd, 16V electrolytic). If
only one has dried out, chances are the
other is on the verge of failing also.
SOLUI'ION: Change C518 and C517 with
equivalent replacements.
Pinball Boards:
Battery Corrosion Danger
By Todd Erickson
Surrmit Amusement
St. Paul, Minnesota
A routine visual inspection of the memory
batteries would be a wise move on all
pinballs. Battery (AA NiCad) corrosion and
leakage can cause severe board damage.
Older Gottliebs are by far the worse if
the battery should leak. This is because
they placed it above two circuit plugs.
Because of the extent of damage to the
PCB, I will generally end up hard wiring
the plugs.
