BIG CHOICE Attraction Lights

USE A LIGHI' DIMMER
To increase the life expectancy of the
attraction lights on .the BIG QDICE
cranes, install a light dirnner available
at Radio Shack (Part #61-2699).
This unit is rated at 600 watts and even
has an on/off switch. 'Ihe cost is $6.95.
Ql is an internally triggered triac with a
diac rrounted inside. It is available from
DIGI-KEY (Part #Q6015LT) at a cost of
$2.98. 'Ihe entire unit should cost about
$5.00 to build and even less depending on
your junkbox.
It's also a great little unit to have on
your workbench to regulate the temperature
of your soldering iron and gives you the
ability to bring up line voltage slowly
when working on monitors.
cur BIG CHOICE crane here has 32 bulbs
each rated at 10 watts (320 watts total)
so we are well within the limits of the
power rating. Installation takes about
five minutes. Reduce the filament
brightness about 15 to 20%. Refer to
Figure 1.
