excessive current flow through Tl, and
cause the fuse to blow.
Now here is a machine by Bally Midway

it was protecting to eventually fail.

glass which sets off a nice visual effect.
This two flipper game offers the player
the Free ball, Special, and, of course,
your Multi-ball play. What I like is the
many different ways you can work the ball
to the players advantage.

If one of the transistors opened up the
other would be pressed into taking up the
slack, and would also fail.
I think that should wrap it up for the
rnorrent. Next :rronth we'll cover the drive
to the transistors, and the output
section.

I found SPECIAL FORCE a little complicated
to figure out at first but, the more games
I played, the easier it became.
The player goes through a small battle
playing this game, collecting rockets,
bombs, capturing hostages, dropping bombs,
firing rockets at tanks, taking the
helicopter rarrp etc. Bonus ix>ints are
scattered throughout -with escape bonuses
and the go-for-wea:[X>n bonus; I could go on
and on ...
Both bottom side ramps have a small bumper
and a side door so that if the ball hits
the bumper a certain way, it will shoot
through the door and cone back into play.
This is a big plus!
SPECIAL FORCE is without a doubt going to
be a big winner in any location. This game
has class, is fun to play and the
challenge on the playing field is just
superb!
the by. . . The newer machines I've found
have a self adjusting score level, so that
if too many games are awarded, the replay
score will keep going up. This player
feels there should be a reasonable maximum
setting to give the players that are not
semi-pro's a fair chance at hitting on
score.

Bally Midway Cabinet Preservation
By Butch "Vernon Vendor" Little
Action Music & Amusements
East Berlin, Pennsylvania
I think everyone is aware of the poor
quality of the finish on early Bally
Midway video games such as PAC-MAN and MS.
PAC-MAN. From the time they were first
shipped, they left your cleaning rag and
bucket the same color as the cabinet!
After a few rrore shoppings down the road,
they started to look more like wood-grain
cabinets around the edges.
1'k>w is the time to take action if you
still have a decent cabinet or two around
to preserve for f()Sterity's sake. (It is
well worth while, judging by the staying
power of games such as MS. PAC-MAN.)
Already we have seen the impact a new
generation "that wasn't even born yet" has
on older games.
.PI0:8llJRt:
We have found that a simple two coats of
poly-urethane not only preserves the
cabinet color and there stenciling and
aids in future cleaning, but also gives
the game a refreshing alrrost "Atari-like"
shine that it never had from original.
The rrost irrp:>rtant factor though, is
cabinet preparation. It is well worth the
tine to remove the marque, control panel,
and the front door and frame. Special
attention should be given to touch-up
(Even the cream of the crop has it's
battle scars!)
An SC6 pad lightly
marks. Don't worry
effect this causes
poly-urethane will
will remove black scuff
about the dulling
because the
hide it.
REMEMBER, anything over-looked at this
point wil~ be permanently preserved and ~
cannot be corrected later!
Apply two coats, a day apart, starting at
the top and working down. Keep the cabinet
in an upright position to avoid settling
dust particles.
We are sure you will be as amazed at the
end results as we were.
Good luck preserving!
