Depending on whether your game contains a
Hitachi or a Pioneer video system, locate the
EPROMs listed in the table on page 22 for
your system. They are located in the indicated
positions on your system's EPROM board.
CAREFULLY remove the EPROMs cur·
rently in the indicated positions and set them
aside. Install the EPROMs provided In your kit
in the positions you just emptied.
Locate and remove your game's SOUND
BOARD. Set it aside.
Install the new SOUND BOARD (provided
in your kit) in the position from which you
removed the old SOUND BOARD.
Remove your game's header and replace
it with the new one provided in your conversion

In order to prevent flipper core plug mounting
screws from shearing off, Baily's engineering
department has approved the use of a larger
screw (#10-32 x 6). To use the #10 screw
they had to enlarge the diameter of the core
plug screw holes in the core plug and the
flipper assembly base plate. This changes the
part number for the core plug, flipper base
plate and the core plug mounting screw.
The new part numbers are:

SUB ■ TITUTION
Due to an Interruption of delivery on the PAL,
Bally Midway Part No. 0304-00803·0052,
used in position U 15 on the Cheap Squeak
Deluxe Module, there will be approximately
1,500 Cheap Squeak Deluxe Modules that
will use a substituted PAL in position U15 with
the Bally Midway Part No. A270-60AXL·AXOD.
With this substitution, two things are
necessary:
1. The signal trace on the PC Board going to
U15 Pin 21 of the PAL must be cut.
DESCRIPTION
#10-32 x 6 Screw
Flipper Base Plate
Core Plug
The old flipper base plate is no longer available.
If you need to replace a flipper base plate, you
will need to order all the parts above. This may
sound like a headache now, but down the
road you will not have as much downtime on
your pinball games caused by the core plug
mounting screws shearing off. The old core
plug and mounting screws will still be available
because Bally uses them on several other
assemblies throughout the game. Bally has
also added two #10 wood screws to mount
the flipper assembly to the playfield. This will
help prevent the flipper assembly mounting
screws from working out of the playfleld after
long-term operation.

2. The EPROMs used on the Cheap Squeak
Deluxe Module must be 250 nano seconds
or faster.
You will still be able to substitute Cheap
Squeak Deluxe Modules between Spy Hunter
games.
If you wish to transfer the U15 PAL Chip
between two Cheap Squeak Deluxe Modules,
make sure you cut or repair the trace at pin 21
as necessary.
This temporary design revision will affect
Spy Hunter games 1600 thru 3100.

W
hen performing a service tip in
Star•Tech Journal (September'83,
page 21) entitled "Bally Pins 555 Lamp Burn-
out" by Sam Cross, problems occurred with
the operation of the solenoid expander relay.
Corrective action to remedy this problem
is quite simple and quick. Resistor R1 on the
solenoid expander assembly must be changed
from a 330.n. resistor to a 220..fl.. resistor.
After doing this, the solenoid expander
assembly will work correctly 100% of the time.
I have tried and tested this change on 12
Bally 8-Ball Deluxe and other assorted Bally
pins for over 2 months without any problems.
One very prevalent problem after the S•TJ
mod was the ball not coming out of the
outhole after bonus was collected.
