Last but not least is the dispenser itself. A

ne fix that was called into me last
month could be called "What the
symptoms mean" instead. On a Taito Front
Line video game-while you're playing along,
if the screen jumps a complete scene each
time the joystick is moved (like going into
warp drive), and then during the tank scene a
ton of garbage is present (like a severe program
problem). Check your joystick! It seems that if
the contact for up is touching while the contact
for down is energized, these symptoms will
appear!

A
nother bit of information for the field
technician: A remote control unit for
the LD-V1000 disc player is available through
Pioneer. The controller for the LD-V1000 disc
player is known as part #GGV-100 and the
extension cable is known as EXT-100. Useful
little articles to have if testing the LD-V1000 is
desired.
Next month we will get back to the regular
grind! Take care until then ... Bear.

ROWE BC-315 CHANCIER NOTES
BALLY PINBALL FLIPPER ASSEMBLY
BY TODD ERICKSON, PRESIDENT, SUMMIT AMUSEMENT, ST. PAUL, MN
ROWE
I
■ C-315
t has been well over a year since I pur-
chased my first Rowe BC-35 Bill Changer.
This machine is a major refinement of the BC-
25 (which is definitely a good machine). My
early BC-35 units had problems with a double
stacker. Bills were being torn and $5 bills
were mixed up with the $1 bills. The new
update kits completely eliminated all of these
stacker problems. The hoppers have a lip so
money can't be dumped out. The transport
has a major improvement- a belt that returns
odd pieces of paper. The belt is usually 95%
effective. The PCB is located at the base of
the machine with large heat sinks where
needed. I have had no board problems with
any of my units. The hoppers can now be
secured by an inside lock. The lid also has a
more secure hinge.
There are a few minor problems remaining.
The test-vend cover is not self-closing and
may be tripped with a wire. A new stainless T-
handle by Medeco has recently become avail-
able. I haven't been able to get one as of this
writing, but it looks good. I must also warn you
about National Lock. If you have one in a
changer, replace it with something else. You
can be locked out of your changer! I mailed
several locks back to them that I had been
locked out of, and their reply was that they
can't be duplicated. One thing I don't need is a
company handing me a line because they
can't do their job. Repeat ... repeat .. . replace
all National bill changer locksll!
The small hopper by Rowe is what I con-
sider to be poorly conceived. It will hold $500
only if you shove the money up and al I the way
back. The standard bag of quarters is $500. If
a quarter is spilled to the rear, it may fall and
jam up the auger. A thin bead of silicon should
help you in this area. The larQe hooper is

excellent, but a complete rip-off. Strong words,
but when the big hopper costs $2 more from
Parts and ten times that amount extra from
Sales, someone is kidding someone! To charge
almost $100 extra for a proper sized hopper
just isn't right. Also note, ·there are different
hoppers for different sized coins. The original
machines also had a lamp lens ttiat could be
removed from the outside. Thankfully, this
has been corrected. The coin entry has been
as much trouble as the rest of the machine.
Twice lately I have had debris jammed in the
coin entry causing the coin return button to
stay down. (Of course, this puts the machine
out of order.)
BALLY PINBALL FLIPi;IIER
ASSEMBLY
B
ally has had problems with their coil
stops and screws breaking on their
flipper assemblies for several years. This
condition on a game may cause it to lose
money for one or two weeks, depending on
the cost of the service call. Number 1 0 screws
should be put in place of the number 8. The
original base plate may be drilled and tapped
with the proper size or replaced with a new
one. The Bally part numbers needed are as
follows:
Coil stop - A365-24
Coil stop screws (1 0x32x6) - 17-1 0 1-467
Base plate - 365-101-XF
Also coming soon are smooth coil plungers. If
ypu have rough ones, I recommend using a
drill to turn the plunger and then sand it with
#320 and work up to #500 or #600. Tungsten
contacts are also coming shortly. This will
leave Gottlieb (Mylstar) as the only company
that doesn't use them for their end-of-stroke.

TRACK & FIELD MISSINCi VIDEO CURE
BY SAM CROSS, ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN,
GODWIN DISTRIBUTING, N. LITTLE ROCK,AR
PROBLEM: Lower half of picture missing.
CAUSE: Because of excessive vibration of
the panel from people pounding on it, usually
on games not equipped with the special buttons,
a certain capacitor in the vertical section of
the Wells Gardner monitor, C313, a large
electrolytic capacitor, will tend to break loose
by either breaking a leg off or breaking loose
from the copper traces on the bottom of the
monitor PCB.
CURE: Repair the capacitor's failure condition
and install pound-proof buttons on the game,
or cushion the capacitor against vibration.
