display to "B" or "delay''. The wave-
form should appear very much like
the signal picture in Figure 3.
etc.) and may require adjustment
should any of these features show
signs of marginal performance.
Figure 3, A and B, show a good
jump pulse signal, and highlight
the areas of the waveform to look
at.

DISC PLAYER VSOP
PANEL TEST POINTS
By adjusting VR8, insure that the
disc player waveform has a mini·
mum overshoot (Figure 3A) and
that the timing interval T1 is less
than T2 (Figure 3B).
To adjust the jump pulse, you must
have a 'scope with delay, and a
remote control for the disc player
(or some other means of executing
search and still commands to the
disc player). Without delving into
the theory, here's how to use the
'scope delay on most scopes that
have it (refer to the scope manual
for specifics on your scope).

Test the disc player for proper
search operation by searching
inside the disc (frame 1000 or so)
and outside the disc (frame 40,000
- will vary according to the infor-
mation on the disc). If necessary,
readjust the jump pulse to achieve
optimal performance.
Set the scope to read 50mV/div at
5msec/div. Place the probe on TP5.
Search the disc player to frame
#1000. Adjustthescopesync level
for a stable trace, then set the
scope display to "A Intensity'' or
"Int", however it may be marked. By
adjusting the scope display inten·
sity, a portion of the waveform
should be highlighted. Using the
delay adjustment, move the high-
lighted portion of the trace so that it
covers the "spike" in the center of
This quick alignment procedure
works without alteration on the
following disc players:
Pioneer PR8210, LD1100,
DVA8210
Magnavox VC801 O
Sylvania VP7200
and other Pioneer-manufactured
disc players sharing the 8210
circuit board set.
