OVERVOLTAGE
PROTECTION
FOR WILLIAMS "DEFENDER"
by DANIEL ZA VARO
SAN FRANCISCO MUSIC AND GAMES
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
In my recent article, "Crowbar Protection
for Williams 'Defender' Rams" (S*TJ, Jan .
'82), I described two methods for protecting
RAM chips from power supply overvoltage
on the "Defender" video game. Williams
uses the same power supply for its new game,
"Stargate". An "Overvoltage PC Board
Assembly" (Williams part #C-8733) is used
on "Stargate", to protect the RAM chips.
Although it is intended for "Stargate", the
board is totally compatible with "Defender".
It is very easy to install; just remove the
power supply cable, insert the board at the
power supply socket, and then reconnect the
cable.

"CENTIPEDE"
ERASING HIGH SCORES
by JOE CONNOR
ACTIVE AMUSEMENT
PHILADELPHIA, PA
Some confusion has arisen on erasing the
high score table of "Centipede". The three
highest scores are held in permanent memory
but can be erased during self-test. To
accomplish this, the fire button must be
pressed simultaneously with the one and two
player start buttons. Keep in mind that a
table with "16543-EJD" as the high score
exists in the program and cannot be erased.
However, any scores which are higher than
16543 will be erased using this procedure.
The message 4FF will appear on the upper
left comer of the screen at the completion of
erasing high scores during self-test. (For
information on this and other self-test features,
see the " Centipede" game manual, page 7.)
