With the cost of equipment going up, the operator needs higher
revenues. To get a larger percentage from a location today is
difficult. One easy way is to install a $1 and $5 bill changer in
your best locations. If a customer has to wait in line to get change,
he may leave. Quite often, the changer becomes the strongest
piece of equipment in a location. Because of inflation, there is
very little depreciation of the bill changer compared to other
equipment. The changer I have been using is the Rowe BC-25. I
recommend using the bright blue and white model with the lit sign.
It is important that the changer stands out for the customer to
readily see. When installing the unit on location, I feel it is best to
have the location use their own money in the changer and have
access to the key. It is unfortunate, but the unit has one basic flaw.
Someone can put a gum wrapper into the transport and the
machine will be out of order. With the long life of this changer,
there are some locations that the cost of removing paper from the
transport will be higher than the cost of the machine. Rowe does
have a modified entry with a clean plastic shield to keep short,
wide pieces of paper out of the transport. The part number is
2-70286-01. There are several things that might work to eliminate
this problem. Place 2 wide front rollers with one center start lamp.
Another possibility is to have one center roller and two start
lamps.
There is no after building what I feel is the finest changer in the industry. The
Rowe changers were originally used more for vending. The
vending industry doesn't have the problems with kids that the
game people do. Many problems today are due to the fact that
operators seldom fill out information cards. With every Rowe
product is a card from Merrill Krakauer, president of Rowe. He
would like to know what problems exist with his products. He can
be reached at 75 Troy Hills Road, Whippany, NJ 07981 or call
201-887-0400. The time has come for all operators to become
involved with quality and design problems with all manufacturers.
Our business has expanded to rapidly that we can't afford to have
a man go out to service nuisance calls.

"VENTURE"
AUDIO/COLOR * BOARD
MODIFICATIONS
There is a modification recommended
for the "Venture" audio/ color board.
This is the board mounted on top of
the main logic board. The modification
is as follows:
1. Cut the trace to pin 5 on the
7 4 LS 7 4 at position 6D.
2. Jump the cut trace to 6D pin 6.
This modification should be done. If
not, there is the possibility that you
may at times lose various sounds from
your audio output. These sounds
include:
1. The "Hallmonster" when he
crunches the "Winky".
2. "Winky" going up to get his bow.
3. The sound of "Winky" going down
the steps.
MONITOR "JIGGLE"
AUDIO* INTERFERENCE
Does your monitor display seem to be
affected by the audio output? For
example, the louder the audio is, the
more the picture on the CRT seems to
be affected with a "jiggle". If so, read
on ...
The speaker wires on some games are
tie-wrapped incorrectly to the main
harness. Remove the tie-wraps that
hold the speaker wires to the monitor
harness and main harness and move
the speaker wires away from these
harnesses, tie wrap the monitor harness
and other back together for neatness
and also twist the speaker wires
together. Position the speaker wires
away from the monitor harness and
other harnesses and you should no
longer have any video interference
caused by the audio.
