HARDWARE COMMENTS:
As can be seen, the board set and hardware used in "QIX" are somewhat similar to that of Williams
"DEFENDER". Thesameprocessor(6809)andalargenumberof4116 display RAMs with a
separate PROM and sound board are the principle similarities.
However, the use of three microprocessors gives this system great flexibility and makes it quite
unique. Only a portion of what this board system can do is used in "QIX". Later games may
incorporate even more spectacular graphics and audio. (Provisions for speech are already
incorporated in PROM and audio boards.)

NOTES:
The ground for coin door switches is J 15 pin 1 O; for control panel switches, J 16 pin 1.
The Memory Protect is a normally closed interlock switch which is located on the
front door. When the front door is closed the switch shorts J 19 pin 1 to J 19 pin 2 on
the Video Processor P.C.B. This grounds pin 13 on LC. Ul02, disabling it and
effectively preventing anything from being written into the bookkeeping RAM.

AUDIO COMMENTS:
As seen in the chart listing outputs, there are two 8 ohm speakers for simulated stereo sound mounted
in the top of the cabinet. Volume can only be adjusted using pot R9 on the Data Sound Board. There is,
however, a connector (J8) on the Data Sound Board which could be used to connect an external
volume control pot on later games.
SELF TEST/BOOKKEEPING
The Self Test procedure is performed using the two switches located on the inside of the coin door, and
the Self Test Button and the LEDs on the Video Board. Self Test is very thorough, capable of checking
memory devices, on the various boards as well as generating a pattern for alignment and
convergence of the monitor.
All bookkeeping totals ( although a coin meter can be easily installed) and option settings are also
programmed in or read out of the CMOS RAM during self test. The four position dip switch and pot
R25 on the Data Sound PCB are unused at this time and have no effect on the game. For detailed
