This first attempt at a video
game for Williams has produced a major contender for "Game
of the Year." The game is well made and basically trouble free.
There are only three minor
problems with the game. The first is the back door interlock
switch. The back door is made of plywood and may warp. It
would be advisable to place a screw in the back door to hold
it tight, adjacent to the switch. Pinball shooter tips are also a
help on the switch or a piece of foam or spring on its back
door. The next problem is the air vent on the top of the
cabinet. In a few locations where spillage of a beverage is a
problem, I feel a handle of wood can be placed over the vent.
An upside down U shaped handle would work well and not
interfere with cooling. The last problem is quite liveable. The
production coin box is quite large. Care must be taken when
removing it from the game, due to the weight of the box. I
don't like the fact that divisions are missing in the box for
Susan B. Anthony coins. The first two problems will be cured
with their next game and the last problem will probably
remain.

The June issue of Star* Tech (Vol. 3, No. 4) contained information on the
availability of conversion kits for Stern "Berzerk" steering assemblies.
Many operators who have acquired these kits (available at Stern dis-
tributors) have complained about the difficulty in installing them, and
the poor results afterwards: (" It was better before I put the new handle
on.")
A step by step look at the assembly from bottom to top should be
helpful when installing the new kit.
( 1
J
Install the metal plate (with large hole) on bottom with ONE metal
washer.
(2J Rubber Bushing
(3J Wooden Block (Cut-out side down).
(4J -Small spacers with washers on top.
(SJ Steering board with optics up and long spacers for crown.
(SJ Place nylon washer, then metal washer, on shaft.
[7J Metal sleeve that fits over shaft.
(BJ Bolt down washer that covers optics on board (flat side up).
(SJ Nylon washer with the holes for the springs that attach to the
long screws.
( 1 DJ The crown which gets bolted on.
The major failure mentioned after installation of a new kit is the man not
moving at one or more of the 45 degree angles. This is caused when the
reflecting washer on the handle is too far or too close to the opti_c
sensors on the board. Mounting only a single metal washer (two are
shown on New Joystick Assembly Drawing, Step 1) at the base of the
assembly should prevent problems of this kind. Correct installation of
the new kit and keeping both the reflecting washer and optic board as
clean as possible will greatly reduce "Berzerk" steering failures.
