Price-Setting Instructions (Part 2)
Now set the dime level. Since a quarter gives 2 steps, a dime
can not be set to a corresponding number of even steps. Nor
can the nickel.

SPECIFIC PRICE SETTING EXAMPLES
FIRST determine the relative values of singles and albums.
Choices are limited to: 1, 2, 3, or 6
If albums are to be worth two singles, then albums may be set
to level 6 and singles set to level 3. The albums may be set to
level 2 with singles set to level 1 to achieve the same ratio.
In general, the higher numbers are more desirable because
more flexibility is obtained that way. However, the credit unit
will go up to only 31 steps, so lower levels must be used when
vending at lower prices with dollar bill validators.
SECOND determine price of play. In the first example it will
be:
2 plays ..... 25¢
5 plays ..... 50¢
10 plays .... $1. in coin (there is no bonus at the $1 level
so $1 will always buy exactly
twice as much as 50¢)
12 plays ..... $1. bill (this is set independently, so a
bonus is possible if a bill is used)
Let's assume that the single level is 1 step and album level is 2.
THIRD set the coin switch settings from HALF DOLLARS
down to NICKELS.
If each play is one step (level 1 for singles), then a half dollar
must be worth 5 steps.
Using diodes, jump the half dollar terminals ( the ones marked
21) to the proper combination of add terminals ( terminals 11
to 15).
To step 5 steps on a half dollar, connect a diode to one of the
21 terminals and terminal 13 (add 4 steps). Then connect a
second diode to another of the 21 terminals and terminal 15
( add I step). This will cause a total of 5 steps to be added
when a half dollar is deposited.
Note that the proper terminals are grouped opposite one
another in clusters.
Using the same procedure, jump terminal 18 ( quarter switch)
to terminal 14 (add 2 steps). This sets the quarter switch.
Now set the bonus for 50¢ (bonus 2) so that two quarters will
equal one half dollar.
If one quarter gives two steps, then two quarters will give 4
steps. But a half dollar is set to give 5 steps. So the bonus
needed for two quarters to raise the credit to a half dollar level
is 1 extra step.
Connect a diode jumper from terminal 9 (bonus 2) to terminal
15 (add I).
So there should be no diodes connecting any 22 or 23
terminals to any other terminals.
Now, since no steps are made on nickels and dimes, when 25
cents is deposited in mixed coins, no steps will be added. But
a quarter will give 2 steps. So the 25¢ bonus needed to raise
zero to 2 is 2 steps.
Connect a diode from terminal 16 (bonus 1) to terminal 14
(add 2).
Now all coin switch settings are made. Note that since we are
using the 50¢ level bonus (bonus 2), there should be no
jumper between terminals 8 and 10.
FOURTH if you have not already done so, connect a solid
wire ( not diode) from terminal 19 ( single level) to terminal 7
(level 1 ).
Connect a second wire from terminal 17 (album level) to
terminal 6 (lev-2).
FIFTH connect diodes between terminals 24 ( dollar bill)
and terminals 12 ( add 8 steps) and terminal 13 ( add 4 steps).
This sets dollar bills to 12 steps.
FINALLY set the debit values. If each single is worth one
step, then one step should be subtracted for each single
played.
The credit unit can only add. But like a pingame score reel, it
can be 'turned over'. Since it only goes up to 31 steps, adding
31 is the same as adding nothing. Adding 30 is the same as
subtracting 1.
This is similar to adding 999 on a three reel pingame. If your
score is 56 and you add 999, your score will be 55.
Anyway, to subtract credit, connect one of the terminals 3
(single debit) to every add terminal EXCEPT the ones
corresponding to the value to be subtracted.

TERMINAL NUMBER
11 ( add 16 steps)
12 (add 8 steps)
13 (add 4 steps)
14 (add 2 steps)
Do notjump terminal 3 to terminal 15. Note that the only add
terminal NOT connected is 15 (add 1 step) and the result is
that one step is subtracted.
To set the debit for albums to -2, using diodes, jump
terminals number 2 (album debit) to all add terminals
EXCEPT terminal 14 (add -2).
The result is that two credit steps will be subtracted when an
album is selected.
The pricing board is now completed.
Other pricing schemes are set similarly.
