Williams
Flipper
Notes
3.1
by Todd Erickson
1 . A few fiber links on "Fire
Power"
and later games have a link with no
fiber in them. The sides will be
brown plastic with no fiber
showing. I recommend changing
these as soon as they are spotted
as they are unreliable.
2. Williams games made in the last
four months have E.O.S. (end of
stroke) points on the flippers with
welded-on contacts. These blades
have been breaking.
have been using Wico one piece
flippers for direct replacement for
about one year now with no
breakage. It is a good idea to
replace all flippers when shopping
a game.
4. The fiber link on
new style flippers
is not cut out enough for the return
spring. I recommend notching the
link so the spring won't collapse
into itself.
5. Since most locations don't have a
vise, I recommend carrying a
complete right and left crank arm-
link-plunger assembly. Also, make
sure that the plastic shield on the
crank arm is in place. If not, the
crank arm will wear through the 1 r - r - - ~ . , .
F..O.S. point.
Cinematronics Analog sw;!ch Substitution Board
The industry-wide shortage of
analog switch (LF13331) which is
used in the Cinematronics Display
Assembly, has made it necessary
to use a substitution. The
replacement part is No. Hl5045 (or
Hl5049).
Due to the discrepancy between
the pinouts of the LF13331 and
the Hl5045, it is necessary to add
a small printed circuit board to the
display assembly to allow easy
reliable installation of the H 15045
analog switch in a 16-pin socket,
filter caps for the regulator circuit
r.onsisting of R1, R2, D1, and C1
and a 1 ~-111t,i ,, ~ 2-~in double
ended ribbon cable assembly.
The Hl5045 is a CMOS DPST
analog switch with operating
characteristics similar to that of the
LF13331. It requires a +5-volt
supply for proper operation. This
supply is furnished on the board
and is derived from the +15-volt
supply line. The + and - 15-volt
supply lines and all the necessary
signal lines are linked between the
PCB and the Display Assembly thru
the 16-pin ribbon cables. The PCB
is mechanically fastened to the left
hand facing edge (as you look into
the back of the display assembly)
of the display chassis with two
sheet metal screws. Troubleshooting
procedures for the display
electronics remain the same as
before with the Hl5045 electrically
replacing the LF13331. The only
additional consideration is the 5-
volt regulator circuit on the PCB
itself.
Use of this substitution device in
manufacturing began with "Rip-Off"
Game Serial Number 64200, and
continued for the balance of the
production run. The device is also
being used in "Star Castle" until
the LF13331 becomes available.
When the LF13331 is available,
Cinematronics will replace the
substitution device at your request ~
on a credit-upon-return basis.

Centuri Service Notes ~
SUBJECTS: 1. Sanyo Monitor Line V o l ~ ,
2. Sanyo Vertical Drivers
3. Speaker Configuration
1 . The Sanyo model DZW 14 color monitor used
in some TARG and MAXI EAGLE games will
cycle off and on under high line voltage
conditions. If this occurs to games in your
area, the AC input to the monitor may be
adjusted.
The isolation transformer secondary which
feeds the monitor has a 1 00-volt AC tap
provided for this purpose. The wire is insu-
lated and tied off in the cable assembly which
goes to the monitor.
Use an AC voltmeter to verify that you
replace the 1 20-volt tap with the 1 00-volt tap
at the monitor connector.
2. The vertical output transistors TR-902 and
TR-903 are breaking loose from the PC Board
on some Sanyo monitors used on -the MAXI
EAGLE game.
This can be cured by coating the leads of
these transistors with either hot glue or RTV
sealant. A small amount should also be applied
between the PC Board and bottom edge of
the heat sink.
GALAXIAN SPEED UP KIT
Installing this kit increases the speed of your rocket from left to right, but also makes
the enemy fly faster, there are more of them, and they shoot faster. Suddenly the rate
at which you're playing is twice what it used to be. The enemy is all over the place
and there are more flying in their formation. Plus, when their leader flies at you he is
shielded by twice as many red ships as before. It is a contest of real skill.
Galaxian Speed Up Kit - $130.
• Easy installation - just plug in memory chips.
• Increases collection by over 50%.
• Adjust number of missiles from I to 5.
• Creates whole new challenge in the game.
ATARI STEERING TEST MODULE
Atari, for many years, has been making a steering circuit board that is used on every
steering wheel or trak ball in all games . From time to time like everything else, they
fail. Sometimes it is a royal pain to determine which is bad - the steeringP.C.B., the
main logic or wiring harness. With all the vibration and dirt this little board goes
through, it's amazing the problems aren't severe'
That's why it is important for every operator to have one of these test modules.
The module plugs onto any Atari steering P.C.B. and by rotating the steering wheel
or trak ball a setofL.E.D. 'swill illuminate sequentially ( cascade) in the direction of
rotation or reverse by rotating in reverse.
Atari Steering Test Module - $40.
• Portable 3" x 2½" .
• Battery operated - 9 volt transistor type.
• Seven L.E .D .'s flash for direction and two L.E .D .'s determine which Photo
Darlington is working.
• Detects direction jitter!
• Determines which Photo Darlington is bad.
ASTEROID CONVERSION KIT FROM LUNAR LANDER
Convert any Atari Lunar Lander into Asteroids. The kit includes front control
panel overlay to cover Lunar Lander control panel and electronic module P.C.B.
that simply plugs onto Lunar Lander P.C.B. After completing the conversion, the
game will sound and play exactly as Asteroids does!
Asteroid from Lunar Lander Kit - $650.
• Easy installation-plugs onto original P.C.B. , minutes to hook up control panel.
• Bright color and explanatory control panel overlay.
• All game options and sound are the same as Asteroids.
• Converts a non-income producing game into a WINNER!
• Accu-Shoot feature is available with this kit.
• Kit does not include Asteroids overhead sign. Contact your local distributor.
These transistors are mounted on heat sink
LGL-B and located on the left side of the
chassis in front of the fly back transformer.
3. Some games were inadvertantly shipped with
a resistor soldered across the speaker
terminals. No Centuri game to date uses this
configuration . Those games using a speaker
with a magnet diameter of two inches or less
require a series resistor of 1 Oto 20 ohms, 5
watt.
