Star Tech Journal

Issue: 1981-April - Vol 3 Issue 2

Foreword ...
With all the new video, pin and music systems
coming out, the operators and multi-line distributors
have technically got to be on their toes. Our
industry reflects electronic state-of-the-art develop-
ments and that means staying in tune with new
circuitry, and advancing micro-technology is a must.
No matter if your job is to isolate the faulty
board/ assembly or to repair it, it pays to
stay educated.

Game is in test mode for a moment immediately after power
is turned on or when test switch is on. When test switch is
returned to "OFF" the game goes into attract mode.
1. ROM TEST
The ROM data are checked 4K bytes at a time, and
then checked together over all. If there are irregu-
larities, the screen will display, for example, "ROM
l" or the like, identifying the bad ROM by number.
The test series will not proceed to the RAM test.
When there are no irregularities, "ROM OK" will
be displayed and the RAM test will then be
performed. The character ROM is not checked.
2. RAM TEST
Each of the 12 ICCs numbered 2114 are checked
and when any irregularity is found a message (e.g.
RAM 11) is displayed and the test series stops. If
there are no irregularities, tests of game sounds
and switches can begin.
The RAM test is performed only onlCCs numbered
2114.

Potential SPKR
Damage by Clarence Davis
When removing lower panel
assembly, first remove 6 pin
connector on your left side
as you face the machine,
then hook your finger under
the lid catch pin. Lift straight
up and toward you. By using
this method, serious damage
to your speakers can be
avoided.
