Stern Electronics introduces new "9 Ball" Pinball Game
Stern Electronics, Inc. will premiere a new video game and its
latest solid-state four-player pinball game - 9 BALL - at the
Amusement & Music Operators Association exposition.
Designed by Steve Kirk, 9 BALL is programmed for quick
playfield action and features an innovative series of challenging
new skill shots. Fast game action is complemented by a playfield
light show and brightly colored backglass of bold, contemporary
design.
Like pocket billiards, 9 BALL is a game of skill. Incorporating
the latest pinball technology, the new game boasts a number of
innovative scoring features, among them:
• Super bonus. Upon completion of sequence of 9 ball drop-
targets, player is eligible to earn 77,000-point bonus.
• Eight-bank drop target with remote drop.
• Multiple ball rocket launcher. Accumulates three balls on the
playfield and launches simultaneously.
• Bonus multiplier increases point value up to ?x.
• Multiple value bonus spinner.
• Turn around loop. Inter-flipper loop changes ball direction in a
split-second.
• Seven-digit scoring display allows players to score in the
millions.
Like all new Stern pinball games, 9 BALL shows player the
highest score to date and features an advanced electronic system
designed and manufactured by Universal Research Laboratories,
Inc., a Stern subsidiary.
Amusement Review, the feature and service
magazine for the operator, player and collector is
temporarily suspending publication.
Publisher Jim Tolbert said, "Our recent first
anniversary issue marked a year of remarkable
growth for us - the magazine has doubled in size
with advertising increasing tenfold. However, a lack
of operating capital makes it impossible for our small
company to keep Amusement Review going at this
time. We hope to resume publishing on a quarterly
basis in the future."
Co-publisher and editor Candace Tolbert added
that "subscriptions continue to pour in from all
segments of the industry here and from other
countries. We've had tremendous support for our
editorial approach to the coin-op world. This is a
difficult decision."
Tolbert said that in the interim his service company
has plans to offer an "amusement news service" to
other trade and collector publications. "We would
also consider selling the magazine to a more
established company, with the possibility of our
being retained as editorial directors," he said.
Mrs. Tolbert expressed appreciation to the "many
people throughout the industry who have given
steady encouragement and assistance to our
publishing effort. We'll continue to be in touch, of
course, and hope to be back in print before too long."
Amusement Review is a publication of For
Amusement Only, 1853 Ashby, Berkeley, CA 94 703.
