G. SCHIRMER, INC. FEATURES TONKABINETS
G. Schirmer, Inc., New York's complete music store and
one of the world's largest music publishers, is proving with
their enviable record that sheet music and record cabinets
are a splendid source of extra sales. Schirmer's feature the
complete line of Tonkabinets—doesn't just "show" them, but
features them.
Good-sized, effective advertisements appear
regularly in three New York Sunday papers as well as the
"New Yorker." Schirmer's also make a point of displaying
the cabinets attractively in the store and in their windows.
Two Schirmer men, John R. Saul, Manager of the Radio.
Phonograph and Cabinet Department, and Ed Hanlein, who
is their salesman in this Department, have set themselves a
quota of selling at least one cabinet each day. They are not
only meeting that quota but many is the day they exceed it.
There is no denying the advantages and the necessity of
protecting sheet music and records against loss or damage,
but the public must be made conscious of the need if by no
other means than the simple expedient of displaying them
prominently where every customer who comes into the store
may see them.
"While our sales have gone steadily upwards and shown
remarkable increase in the past year," said Mr. Percy A.
Tonk of Tonk Mfg. Co., Chicago, "I am sure that the surface
of this big, rich field for added sales volume has been hardly
scratched by the average store. The many inquiries that we
are getting from consumers in response to our national ad-
vertising indicates that 1941 is going to be by far the biggest
year in sheet music and record cabinets for stores that make
a feature of them."
LAFAYETTE MODEL 776-T SOUND COORDINATOR
W I D E FLEXIBILITY IN PORTABLE
SOUND SYSTEM
The traveling band never knows when it is going to find
itself in a spot where sound reinforcement is a necessity,
either because of the size of the hall or its poor acoustics.
The Lafayette Model 776-T coordinated sound system is es-
pecially well adapted to this type of service.
Completely
self contained for travel, in a sturdy carrying case 21"xl<8"
xl3", it can be set up for operation in a few minutes. And
with its 32-watt sound output, rising to 45 watts for instan-
taneous sound peaks, it provides plenty of volume for even
the largest auditorium or hall.
The system, a product of Lafayette Radio Cor])., 100 Sixth
Avenue, New York City, consists of an 8-tube high-fidelity
amplifier, a choice of one standard microphone with telescop-
ing floor stand, two heavy-duty 12-inch dynamic loudspeakers,
and cables and plugs for all interconnections.
The loud-
speakers come mounted directly in the halves of the carry-
ing case which thus serves as convenient sound baffles.
The amplifier provides for simultaneous operation of two
microphones and a record player or contact pick-up, with
individual controls for blending these three inputs in any de-
sired proportions. It also includes a volume-level indicator
meter, master volume control, separate bass and treble equal-
izer controls for matching the output to the acoustic charac-
teristics of the room, and connections to permit mixing and
fading the two microphones from a remote point.
Admirably adapted to either portable or permanent serv-
ice, this Lafayette system is within economic reach of most
every band—may even be paid in small monthly installments
if desired.
