PEARSON COMPANY, INCOR-
PORATED
A change in name of the Pearson piano business at
Indianapolis has taken place, the name being changed
from Pearson Piano Company to Pearson Company.
Inc. The reorganization makes changes in officials
by which John S. Pearson succeeds George C. Pear-
son, founder of the business and president up to the
time of this change when he retired from active par-
ticipation in the business.
The other officers are Albert Pearson, vice-presi-
dent; E. T. Daab, treasurer, and Robert N. Fulton,
secretary. The board of directors is composed of
the officers above and O. J. Smith.
The Pearson business was established sixty-one
years ago and in a very small way by George C.
Pearson and has grown to be one of the leading music
house* of the country.
WILKING, INDIANAPOLIS
The illustrations and descriptions showing interior
views of the Wilking Music Store at Indianapolis,
Ind., which appeared in Presto-Times recently, at-
tracted considerable attention in the trade, but one
photograph of the group of Wilking interior views
was inadvertently left out. The omission was a
picture showing the attractive entrance and foyer to
the Wilking store, which view is herewith presented.
The Wilking establishment is headquarters for many
musical and professional artists of Indianapolis and
scores of professionals visiting that city make Wilking
their headquarters.
But more than the mere statement that the Wilking
store is one of the most handsome music trade em-
poriums of the country is the fact that good business
and marked progress prevail there these days. Every
month so far this year is ahead of the same period
a year ago and several months have even surpassed
1928, which period is on record as being the best
Wilking year in the history of that house.
Presto-Times is pleased to add this illustration to
the ones already presented and in paying this com-
pliment to Mr. Frank Wilking, proprietor of the
business, and all of his associates at the Indianapolis
headquarters store as well as his branch stores wish
them continued success and prosperity.
CENTURY OF PROGRESS MUSIC FEATURES
Farm Music Day at A Century of Progress Ex-
position is down for a real musical festival, this being
a consolidation with the fifth Chicagoland Musical
Festival brought out annually. This event occurs on
Saturday, August 18th, and coincides with Illinois
Day.
Many events interesting to the musical world are
continually taking place beside the two great im-
portant events which go down in history as the best
that any exposition could give its patrons, the Chi-
cago Symphony Orchestra concerts and the Detroit
Symphony concerts.
Another interesting musical event was the Mexican
orchestra known as the "Tipica" Orchestra of Mexico.
These musical organizations playing in one week,
the Chicago Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the
Highlanders and the Mexican Orchestra, gave ex-
position visitors a rare treat of great music and in-
dicative of future events in the line of music and
musical representation.
"Where'r you walk" on the exposition grounds
music is supreme. At the Illinois Host House the
Court of States, the Hall of Science Theater, the
recital hall of the Hall of Religion, everywhere, halls
and auditoriums, not to mention the carillon recitals,
always interesting to hear, there is something of
interest and value in music to listen to.
The Quality Piano Shoppe, Akron, Ohio, owned and
controlled by Ernest E. Smith, an experienced piano
man, is now located at number 33 South Howard
street, that city, in the heart of the town, where much
better facilities are had than at the former store.
A comparatively new dealer in pianos, musical mer-
chandise, etc., is Carl W. Hawkinson, Fremont, Neb.,
who recently engaged in the music business in that
city, taking on the Baldwin line of pianos.
A. E. Segreto who recently joined the Wurlitzer
Company staff of piano salesmen at Youngstown,
Ohio, was at one time a piano tuner and a teacher
of the piano and spent considerable time at a piano
factory studying piano making.
