O. P. BASSETT
Concerning the passing of Mr. O. P. Bassett, pres-
ident of the Martin Band Instrument Co., Elkhart,
Indiana, a gentleman highly esteemed in the music
trade, the following announcement was sent out by
the Martin Band Instrument Company and the Indi-
ana Band Instrument Company:
"We sincerely regret to announce the death of our
president, Mr. O. P. Bassett. Mr. Bassett had been
in poor health for several years but fought valiantly
for recovery, at times showing wonderful improve-
ment but recently complications made his recovery
impossible.
Although he has passed on, we pledge ourselves to
keep alive his policies which have contributed so
greatly to our growth under his direction."
Speaking of competition among manufacturers of
musical instruments Mr. H. E. Capehart, president of
the Capehart Corporation, Fort Wayne, Ind., said
that one of the greatest things that could happen to
this industry would be for all manufacturers and man-
ufacturers' salesmen to take the same attitude as
the automobile manufacturers and their salesmen.
The automobile manufacturer's salesman selling a
low-priced line of automobiles does not knock the
high-priced line. Neither does the salesman of high-
priced automobiles knock the sale of low-priced cars
—they both go about their own business, advertising
their own merchandise, securing their own dealers
and as a result they are all very, very successful.
