large teeth and bangles remained fairly steady, while
light bangles and billiard teeth advanced by £ 2 to £ 3
per hundredweight. Scrivalloes were in good demand
and prices advanced between £ 3 and £ 4 per hun-
dredweight. The demand for soft ivory was less
active (especially large teeth), while, on the other
hand, oversizes increased £ 5 per hundredweight.

CIVIC OPERA COUPONS
Because the Chicago Civic Opera wishes to give
all Chicagoans and residents of near-by cities an equal
opportunity to hear all of the outstanding artists who
make up its personnel, and to view the lavish produc-
tions of the company, the management has arranged
to issue a limited number of special performance
coupon-books to accommodate those who are unable
to attend regularly on a definite night each week.
These "mileage" books for grand opera represent
to the holder a decided advantage in cost, choice of
special performances, advance information on weekly
repertoire, and the opportunity to buy seats twenty-
four hours in advance of the box office sale. The
coupons are good for Friday night, Saturday night
and Sunday matinee performances.
Additional advantage to the coupon-book holder is
found in the fact that he may buy a seat at any price,
or as many seats at any price as he may desire for a
single performance. The coupons are used in lieu of
cash, the owner of a coupon-book receiving $72.00
worth of coupons for $68.50, or a smaller book of
$36.00 value in coupons for $34.25.
Two young American artists who made their "ma-
jor league" debuts in grand opera Saturday evening,
November 10, were Hilda Burke, who appeared as
Aida, who was born in Baltimore, Md., and has re-
ceived all of her musical training in the United States,
and Coe Glade, who made her debut as Amneris in Aida
and who is a native Chicagoan. She was born on
the North Side and attended Marywood Convent at
Evanston. Miss Glade's first musical endeavors also
were at the piano, with a view to becoming an accom-
panist. This work she began at the age of ten, and
at thirteen gave her first recital.
CHARLES MARSHALL IN OTELLO.
With public interest aroused over the brilliant open-
ing performances of the 1928-29 Chicago Civic Opera
season at the Auditorium Theater the repertoire and
casts chosen for the immediate future symbolize the
efforts of officials of the company to present the
most attractive lyric works with the most popular
artists. Continuing this policy, the repertoire for
the second week is replete with operas that particu-
larly appeal to the music lovers of Chicago and sur-
rounding towns, and one enticing presentation after
another tends to lend a gala atmosphere to the activ-
ities of the company. The week of November 12
will open with a performance on Monday evening
with Verdi's powerful "Otello," and will feature
